Many years ago, someone made me a thing which was basically a meat stew of some sort. The thing that made it distinctive was a topping of some kind of thick batter, which she mixed up and poured onto the top of the stew as it bubbled away. The batter cooked in the stew like dumplings, but made a continuous thick layer on the top and was more like bread than any other dumplings I've ever had.
Anyone any ideas as to what this is called and where it comes from? The girl in question had spent a few years living in Portugal, but my google skills aren't really getting me anywhere. -

My sister lived in Portugal. Gave me ths tip. Line a large bowl with thick slices of garlic bread and then top up the bowl with whatever stew you can get your hands on. Traditionally referred to as Sopas I believe.... so good and so easy and a great meal for serving in the middle of the table with a large old salad!

The 'failed' slow cooker risotto experiment actually made really nice risotto cakes! Didn't fall apart when frying and had a texture similar to fish cakes.
So, not too bad over all.

Speaking of pizza, what's the deal with Homeslice in shoreditch?
The saltiest food I have ever consumed!

Anchovies on all the pizzas?

None of them delight as much as the original. Northcote Rd one is to be avoided, unless you have kids yourself and can withstand the wailing prams.

Made harissa crusted lamb breast with potato rosti and carrot puree last night. Had a jus of reduced homebrewed imperial stout.

Sounds lish. I only dare eat lamb breast about once a year. It's what made all the Tongans fat #apparently

This weather has me in the mood for beef bourguignon or something similar. Does anyone have any recipes or suggestions?

Yeah, it's so bloody cheap too. I will be eating it twice this year as Simon forgot to get it out the freezer so had to buy another.
I agree, that's probably the worst Franco in town
