  • you might need to be more specific on the 16" wheels as there are more than one, unless it's for a brompton?

  • Kids bike wheels.

  • Getting yourself a new bike for Xmas, damo?

  • Wahey!

    No-one saw that one coming.

  • Kids bike wheels.

Okay, a little bit more, like the ETRTO of it (a 700c ETRTO is 622).

    I assumed it's likely to be 305.

  • Giving the cost, you might as well sell the Plug for the Plug 1 that have 120mm spacing (cantis).

@edscoble fair point but i cba to sell my bike and buy another one when i like it fine like it is, except for the busted wheel.

But this did cause me to flick through the Charge line up and wtf were they thinking with the 135mm OLD on a single speed? I can't see the Plug 0 frame anywhere else in the line up with gears on it so wtf was the point?

and, as documented elsewhere, they forgot to drill any mudguard fixings on it.

and, they told me back in May that all this would be sorted for the 2017 line up... of which there is no sign...

    get it together, you lot....

  • It's likely that there's little need to bend the tubing to compensate for the wide tyres and narrow spacing, the clearance would be a bit tighter if it were 120mm with almost straight seatstay/chainstay.

Does Surly still do the Fixxer? you can probably just fit a 135mm hybrid wheels (Mavic A319/Shimano Deore hubs) and put the Fixxer on it to convert it into a fixed wheel.

  • I see, but then they have the alu frame Charge 1 with 120mm spacing...

Could gone with a conversion but i've just pressed go on the Surly New Ultra hub / kinlin XR22T build.

Cos I'm worth it. Or something.

  • Dont be a fucking wind up ed.

  • Does Surly still do the Fixxer?

No, but Walker Brothers do a cover version

  • Neat solution. A front dosc brake hub with a new axle and a fixed cog can work too. Velosolo do them but freewheel is not possible with this conversion.

  • I see, but then they have the alu frame Charge 1 with 120mm spacing...

Because it's alu and it's (least to them) a higher tier frames that share similarites to the geared version.

Surly hubs/Kinlin will be great, gonna last you quite a while.

  • Guys where can I buy phil wood road hub here in the uk? Been looking but no luck!

  • Dave hunt sold me mine . Or its avt in the usa and hope you dont get kit for tax.

Sideways maybe but i think they are royce.

  • Dcr wheels

  • Ha thanks mate funny enough Inwas reading his website on hubs review!

  • Any shop with a big mama account can supply a phil road hub. That means any shop that supplies the archtype rim can help you, that quite alot of shop btw.

  • Even big mama have to special order road hubs though. Not listed on their b2b site anyway...

  • Yup, need to be special order and paid up front.

  • Thats odd because they are in the catalogue. My assumption is if it in the catalogue you can buy it easily.

Does dcr stock them? Seems like an odd thing to stock.

  • I have contacted DCR is off but will most likely come back to me...

In the meantime, I wonder if anyone has experience or any view on Yoeleo and SMC carbons wheels...

They look good and financially attractive but they both use different hubs and am not so sure about them since I might be cycling in the wet a lot. SMC uses hubsmith hubs and Yoeleo uses novatek (both can be upgraded to ceramic bearings).

    Any views, other options?

  • Decided to upgrade my wheels on the winter bike and have gone for these http://www.sigmasport.co.uk/item/Mavic/Ksyrium-Elite-Wheelset-2017/7XMA. Anyone have them...any good?

  • Those seem a bit expensive for what they are.

For factory winter wheels I wouldn't look beyond Shimano RS10/11s. Cheap, strong, easy to service and can pick them up individually should you break one.
If you want to spend a bit more, or want a wider rim, the LG variants of Fulcrum 7/5/Quattro.

  • any good?

The only good thing about the Elite is that it isn't the Pro/SL :)
