Struggling to find a 30mm deep tubeless compatible rim for a disk set up .

Results so far are :
the hunt carbon 30 but hubs are not too good. £999
Dcr wheels but not too much info on what dave has.
Cycleclinic and the borgs but again a bit short on info but big on tubeless and irc.
Wheelsmith . Not much info on his tubeless options although he does offer hope pro 4s

I am sure lots of people have done similar for cx/hp road so spill the beans please.
Pics would be good and the hunt price similarities.

If you can bear US deliveries, then you might want to look at the FLO 30... they are excellent rims... then get some decent hubs and hey presto!

Already got flow 30 but the 60 quid import put them at nearly carbon rim prices . I do like them even though the metal rim is like cheese .

Do they have to be 30 mm?

I have a pair of these and really love them... proper UST rims with no holes, you inflate them once a month

Aerodynamically they are zero though... I have them on my SS

Even 38 but looking at lighter than the flow 30 and sl25 that I already have . I like the reynolds atr but they i think would be similar to what i already have .

Kinlin xr31t - lightest, stiffest and strongest at that depth. Most affordable. Goes tubeless easy. Assymetric. Great finish, very round and true from the box. No need for silly rim washers that are all the rage these days.

You can have a set of these on Hope pro4 for about £500 depending on spokes.
They won't be that light though.Hubs are not the lightest, neither are the rims.
If you go carbon over alloy ,all the rest of the specs being equal, you are saving about 60g a rim.

I have a pair of HED + which are lovely and go tubeless OK with tape... but there is a big difference between a tubeless compatible and a UST rim... the latter really is a fit and forget thing, that I can take for a week long trip without having to bother with carrying a pump... they are just very very lovely... shame no equivalent rim for "road"

I've got some brand new LightBicycle 35mm deep, 25mm wide, tubeless ready ones that I'm having a massive change of heart over, really good rims by all accounts and look really well made from the outside but just won't be using them. £330 posted + fees if you're interested.

For my next wheel build I need a rear hub with the following specs:

1. 135mm wide
   
2. Disc
   
3. Shiny silver
   
4. Sturdy
   
5. 32h
   
   

It has to be sturdy, durable and reliable because it'll be on the bike I'll be using for touring Iceland. It has to be shiny silver to match the front hub and because I'm a bike tart. The need for shiny silver rules out anything Shimano, otherwise I'd be all over an LX hub. I had thought of using a Hope Pro4, but I've heard bad things about their flanges breaking, so I've turned my attention to a shiny silver White Industries XMR. A 15mm CroMo axle should be up to quite a bit of abuse, but other suggestions or comments welcome. Apart from 'don't bother with shiny silver'.

I am thinking about converting missus' bike to 650b taking advantage of the Superstar sale. There are 2 choices, a UST Mavic 421 or Stan's Arch. The first one comes to £99 and the other one £125 .. you reckon UST is better if I am going tubeless? Will be using either Maxxis Refuse 50c or Panaracer Gravel King 1.75" depending on the clearance.

If you want to run tubeless, a UST rim is better... there are other advantages, like being able to replace a spoke without the need to remove the tyre

The stuff about Hope flange collapsing is nonsense... I built dozens of Hope hubs and nobody ever had any issue.
Probably some dodgy home builder making a big noise about his poor job

I lloked at them. they are tubeless ready, not UST... the XM 819 and 821 are UST

I built a lot too. Now I've seen some of them with cracked flanges. Not a lot, some. Always replaced without question.
All the new hope hubs are a lot better then the older ones.

Could you enlighten us all as to what do home builders do or not do, to make a flange crack?

Oh that is a ride ending crack.

White industries or royce hubs have steel axles. Both are perfect.

A novatec d771 should be good enough but it has an alloy axle.

Broken 777 is right. Carbon rims are not that much lighter. I have test set which i have only built the rear up so far. These are 26mm wide and 35mm deep. 435g each. However being carbon they are very stiff.

From all the builders you have listed what info do you think is missing.

the XM 819 and 821 are UST

Looking at mavic.com today, it also seems that those nice FORE drilled UST rims have been dropped in favour of a bunch of new wider but otherwise inferior rims. Anybody wanting to build some UST wheels might want to get on it now while stocks last
