where's the best place to get a genuine sjcam 4000? I know people were having issues with knock offs for a while, is that still the case?

i am considering a gopro.
looking at the Hero Session, will be mounted on motorbike helmet for commuter reviews and on multiple pushbikes for fun riding vids.are they any good or should i spring for a fancier gubbins?
-
• #557
Session is great for commuting, one button to press so easy to do in gloves. Connects to phone through wifi so no messing with leads or card reader. Compatible with all other go pro mounting kits so easy to put it where you most want it.

I find connecting to mine via WiFi to be a massive pain in the arse.
-
• #559
Likewise.
-
• #560
As above, excellent for commuting.
The only drawback is the battery life mentioned previously.
I'm an hour each way and it's a pain that it can't cover both ways on one charge.
-

720p at 60fps gets just over 2 hours.

It's a decent enough camera, the light is briiiight, it's easy enough to use (mac / windows / android - if you're on linux, the camera will not mount, due to a known driver issue that will never be fixed, but you can use a VM) and it secures well to go-pro style mounts.
I'm on my second one, however, as the female micro-usb connector fell apart. I don't know yet if this is a systemic problem, or a one off crappy component.
The control button is a little small, and inaccessible if you are using an out-in-front mount, and the status light is only visible if you have it mounted one way up.

Looks like you can run the hero5 from external power according to https://community.gopro.com/t5/Cameras/Charging-Tips-Hero5/td-p/17172
although you'd lose the waterproofing with the door open.
Any reason not to think you could do that with the Hero5 Session?
Do you think that's a goer for longer rides? Any risk of vibration working the SD card loose etc.?
Does yours have the EIS software stabilisation? Can that cope with vibrations from being mounted to the bike rather than the body?
-
• #565
The sd card retains well so I wouldn't worry about it working loose. I only ever mount mine to the bike and the image is fairly stable. https://splice.gopro.com/v?id=D6nV3gk6q
I hope someone will do an aftermarket door which ports the power socket to the housing of what you discovered is true.

And thanks for the HU.
Side note. My Sandisk Ultra 32gb bricks it. Apparently avoid Ultra at all costs says elsewhere. On the hunt for good value alternative now.

What's the forum approved ebay/amazon grab bag bundle of mounts?
Not a fan of helmet mounting, but all other peripheral body and bike parts.

I have lots of plastic spare ones from various sjcam sets happy to share some if it helps.
For bike mounts I'd say get metal ones for a few quid on ebay/amazon/whatever.
32gb sd cards seem to be about £9 on amazon, just make sure it's "sold by amazon" and they won't be fakes. I usually just buy one in a colour I haven't got tho so I can tell them apart.

I got a lexar jobbie from Amazon (UHS1 633x bollocks)
Need some mounts will be wanting to stick it on Motorbike hat, handle bars on pedal bikes (MTB mainly but probs fixeh too for sick^rad whips about town footage)
Are the £20 60 in 1 kits useless shite or worth a punt for some bits? -
• #575
I'd say buy the mounts you want, one of the main problems with the handlebar mounts in them kits is that they are plastic. Dunno about the other uses I guess for other mounts the plastic would work.
Drop your resolution to 720 and you should get 2 hrs.
