Looking at 650b for this. Any recommendations/ real life experiences with 32h Black disc rim?

    Rack mounts
Currently learning how to weld - I'll try and do this myself. Anyone got a spare v2 fork? @timbre think you mentioned some time ago you had one.. still knocking about?

  • I don't, sold it to someone on here.

Where you learning to weld, would like to learn myself.

Why 650 tho? You can fit 35's already seems unnecessary

  • Also I've got mtx 33's on mine and they are really good. Strong fuckers (not 650 I know)

My Brooklyn is not the lightest tho

  • Friend / Youtube. Looks not too hard. Going to give it a go soon.

    650b thread >>

Theres a few reasons - namely the vertically challenged seem to fit a small wheel diameter. I wanna see if there is really a big difference in terms of controlling the bike. I dont feel out of control with the BMW - but I figure might be interesting to see if theres a difference with a wider rim / wider / smaller tyre.

  • Why does it seem everyone with a Gangsta wants to turn it in a Pompino?

  • Its made of 'sturdy steel'. Enough said.

  • Weren't you commenting a while ago against 650 and wondering why mechanics are obsessed with it?

  • Two for the price of one.

  • No. I posted an article in the 650b thread that was against it. It was funny how it was written. Very angry.

I commented on the white whale project:

"What is it with mechanics and 650b"

Because there are a few mechanics out there and frame builders (Hartley) who swear by it.

Ive never been against it at all :)

  • Also - how am I turning this frame into a pompino? By adding canti studs? 650b? pleassse

  • Sorry for the charged comment, I don't really see the benefit unless you are going to use bigger tyres, (on paper) it'll just compromise the bb height and handling

  • I'll be using 42-45mm compared to 28/33.5mm now. Do you think it will make a big difference to the handling? I was expecting a little difference. Not massive.. I dont know - thats why I am trying it really. If it doesnt work - I'll keep experimenting.

  • That still equals roughly 20 mm in bb drop. I think that's doable and could be worth a try for the extra plush, watch out for your pedals though. I don't know what the bb height is on the Gangsta but it's worth reading up on bb height and comparing differences on paper before committing to a new wheelset

  • Your right.

  • Starting to sound like scoble 😂

    Sorry @edscoble

  • My gangsta handles super well with 33mm rim width and the big tyres.

I guess because the tyres have a nice profile on that wide a rim? whatever it is i recomend it.

I have fitted 40c cross tyres to mine too with room so I wouldn't say you particularly need to do it but if you want to why not.

Also yours is a short and they have mad toe overlap so might be worth doing it just for that.

  • That's OK fam... wait, why are you saying it like it's a bad thing?

  • You're supposed to be the 650b guy! Cheeky post again. Only love

  • issue with big 700c on the short gang is toe overlap becomes unreal.
650 would in theory allow big tyres without change to toe overlap.
go the whole hog n buy cheap 26 mtb rims 2008 style
