  • It went from 40 views to 13k fairly quickly. But just noticed that Standard fuckers grabbing instead embeding the videos.

  • Stolen to order if they are being that brazen about the whole thing?

  • The bike or the video? ;)

  • touche!

  • 40k with that gash see through clutch cover ? Oh dearie me.

  • Hi all, my Specialized Diverge Smartweld (matt grey, 61cm) had been stolen in Hackney, London, Broadway Market, last Sunday evening between 7 and 9pm. Rear wheel and frame locked with a Magnum Armored Cable Lock. Everything gone without a trace including bike comp and airpollution sensor, and with no sign or debris at the scene. It had a rear rack and front and rear tyres didn't match - new Schwalbe Marathon+ with the reflective strip.
The frame was registered with bikeregister, got it reported.
Its a long shout but if anyone sees a bike matching this description with a rider not wearing sunglasses with earplugs in, please kick him off the bike immediately ;)
This is the closest pic I had, without the new rear tyres though.

    Thanks.

  • Sorry to say that cable lock was not adequate defence.

  • Might be jumping to conclusions but this could be a dodgy seller given that they've all been suddenly listed. Check these out if you've had anything nicked

  • Look at the background.

  • Looks to be camden cycles, pics are being taken by the doorway of the shop.

  • Hi,

My hodge podge bike was stolen outside hackney downs station today between 11am and 4pm.

I cant find a picture sadly, but i'll describe:

Only the seat tube (Shimano) decal is left

    • bull horn bars, black bar tape (Pro), left bar-end plug missing
    • 531? reynolds chrome forks
    • Rear: Black Espresso coaster brake, black spokes, purple nipples, black deep rim
    • Front: sunbeam? hub, silver spokes, silver rim (someone nicked my wheel about a week ago and replaced it with that)
    • LifeLine Narrow Road Clip-On Mudguard x2
    • Continental Touring Plus Reflex City Road Tyre
    • Generic studded saddle, Generic chainset, chain, single cog, silver road pedals

I've reported it with BTpolice. If anyone has any other suggestions it would be appreciated (i have no picture, frame number, insurance, regestration with bike register).

If anyone sees it knocking around if you could let me know that would be great.

In the mean time, does anyone know of anywhere I can get cheap run-around-town bike in northeast london (I live in stoke newington)?

    Thanks

  • To be fair that guy had the right idea.

    (Only two weeks late!)

  • Sorry to hear they got stolen.
Chatted to you about the green one at Hide Park Corner one morning few months back, I was on a Dave "De Rosa" Yates at the time.
    Hope you'll get them back.

  • Hey, I remember you DoktorPepe. They've dismantled them and sold most of the components on Gumtree. The 2nd hand cycle/cycle parts section of Gumtree needs to be shut down!!!

  • Stolen Specialized Langster, Silver, 2009.

A much loved bike with much more emotional value than financial value.

Stolen in London today between 3 and 4 PM from Blackfriars Road near Southwark tube station.

Stock with no changes to it.

Looks exactly like the attached photo.

Many thanks in advance for looking out for it and any help you can provide.

  • Sorry to hear! Had my Mercian (just) re-built Pearson swiped just before Christmas. Happy Christmas to me! As you its the sentimental value that trumps the financial value. Mine had been all over Europe with me over the past 8 years! Do keep an eye out for it on http://www.findthatbike.co.uk (Gumtree, eBay and PreLoved cycle related ads all pulled into the one web site). Do be careful with photos and titles on there. Those selling stolen bikes will either post a pic of the actual bike they are selling on (sometimes obscured/out of focus), but the wording may not be correct or vice-versa to throw you from finding it. If its sold complete on one of the websites they can appear just hours after, or a few days/a week when the theft isn't as 'hot'. Good to check a few times every 24hrs and you'll be surprised of the number of ads if you look at all for sale.
Hopefully you have also registered your bike with findthatbike and then marked it as stolen. The Met use the web site to trace the owners of recovered bikes. Hopefully you know or have the frame number to add to the site. That way that is your proof that the bike is yours. Had an old hybrid stolen previously and I never registered it at the time and the sneaky thief took the frame no. and registered it as his own on the site to then sell on. Not complete proof of ownership, but if you've had it eons and no longer have a bill of sale etc then difficult to prove {possibly}.
One last thing, email a description and photo to the Cycle Task Force cycletaskforce@met.police.uk They will distribute it between their officers to keep an eye. Any known scratches/seat post marking that you made to keep the seat height correct for yourself etc put in the email, especially for a stock machine. Oh, also Broadway and Brick Lane markets are worth a visit at the weekend as I've heard that stolen bikes are sold there. I hope you are reunited soon!

  • Thanks so much for all your really valuable advice! As you say, it's totally the emotional attachment. I have been all over with the bike, including, the Dunwich Dynamo.

As awful as it is to have your beloved bike stolen, it's heartening to know that the cycling community cares.

There is now also a Twitter account @stolen_langster if anyone reading this could please take the time to retweet a tweet from there that would be hugely appreciated.

I'll keep everyone informed on progress. Hopefully the Internet and the cycling community can work its magic.

    I'll keep everyone informed

  • From the description of where you said it's very possible some good cctv can be found. I'd say contact tfl's Palestra office which might be difficult but they will have a ton of cctv if you get the right people.

  • stolen in gloucestershire:
