  • Close. It's the road above Chardonne in Lavaux, above Lake Geneva. Very much like Ally Pally but with more vines and more mountains. And more lake.

  • My weekends are on a Wednesday so I rode my new bike to the top of a local hill

  • lovely. where is that dude?

  • Those are the Malvern hills in Worcestershire

  • ah, sweet. they are doable for me over the xmas period so hopefully will get to check them out. look lovely.

  • Do you have a more specific ref for that path in the middle picture? Looks dreamy.

  • This weeks weekend ride was actually on a weekend shock horror!
Our annual crossmas ride, mixing cross bikes, mates, real ale, rum, whisky, a brewery visit and cheese. Only 38 miles this year but 4800' climbing and an elevation profile that looks like a hospital ecg printout

  • It's called the Beacon Road. Runs from the Wych Cutting (a KOM on the 2014 Tour of Britain) all the way to the summit of the Worcestershire Beacon.

  • I turned 35 on Monday so to celebrate officially becoming a MAMIL I did three laps of Richmond Park. It's silly to go there on the weekend but midweek, late morning RP really is gorgeous.

I then picked up my Maserati from the garage, called my broker to re-arrange some of my investments and took delivery of a new set of golf clubs, all in all a great day.

  • Nice one - thanks mate!

  • Shit, is 35 the official cut-off? I thought I had a few more years of youth left in me...

  • Some different XMAS riding 42X17

  • Saturday just gone did the Gap ride in the Brecon Beacons. This was a snow hunt Gap ride; as this ride is usually best done in spring or summer the main reason for doing this now was to ride in fresh snow that was guaranteed to be up high.

The route we took is known as the clockwise Gap, starting and finishing at the Brecon Mountain Railway, with a few miles of road riding at the start to get to the start proper of the offroad section, being around 47km all in.
Was pretty bloody cold and exposed on the passes with me being unable to ride at one point as my SPDs and cleats became balls of ice before the final descent.

Scenery was spectacular and the route took in part of the Taff Trail. Mostly a long slog but some interesting technical climbs and descents on the way.
My feet got so cold during this ride at the end, my toes still feel oddly tingly even now (guess this is better than no feeling and/or black toes.)

Fan Y Big in the background, sometimes affectionately known as Big Fanny.

    View south from the Gap.

View north down into the Gap, bloody tricky descent ahead.

Pigs at play in the snow. Andy, Curtis and myself in the first photo; Tristan, Curtis and Andy in second.

A view back up the Gap with Big Fanny on the left with me trying not to slip whilst taking a panoramic shot.

Me grinding up the Brinmore Tramway with Talybont Resorvoir in the background.

This photo was taken ten minutes and 100 metres after the last one, or something. Fuck that headwind!

Tristan's bike secured in handy snow drift bike storage.

*Thanks to Andy for the good photos, but not for the six mile sprint to the first offroad section.

  • Nice!

  • Wow, bet you're not missing London with scenery like that!

  • Scenery is definitely one thing I don't miss about London.

  • This looks wild

  • The wind was pretty fucking wild at times.

  • Slush and frost everywhere, yesterday was a spooky ride.

I was expecting the roads to be drier given it hasn't been raining in a week!

  • Misty, sunny, chilly but awesome pootle along this route today:

Riding along the top of the flood defences was cool.
