  • Right, I'm going to pull the trigger and get a new macbook pro. Had mine since 2009 but I'm going freelance as a photographer/cinematographer so need a new one that works.

I'm planning on going for the top spec 15" then upgrading the CPU and graphics card but not the SSD as I won't be storing much on it. I'll also get a couple of usb dongles and maybe a thunderbolt one.

Is there anything I'm missing in terms of getting the best most future proof spec possible without wasting money. (I know it's limited to 16GB ram, but I can't wait for a potential v2 sadly).

  • Did the same thing a few years ago, top spec everything but small SSD with the intention of storing things elsewhere. A year later I changed the SSD myself.
If you're spending all that money, you might as well save yourself the hassle of not being able to expand it later on.

  • I think the difference in processor speed is neglible compared to the benefit of more storage which in turn will allow the processor to work better with more free space. (as far as I understand)
I'm getting one too, but can't afford more then the basic 15" without any upgrades. :(

  • So I've just taken delivery of a 13" MBP w/TouchBar. It's aces and much shinier than the previous generation. The screen is really nice - it feels larger than the previous one, even though it's not.

Were I in your shoes, I'd max out everything I could afford to. But I'd sacrifice incremental bumps in clock speed for storage. Even if you think there's not going to be much on there, there will be more.
