  • Speaking of which, anyone know of somewhere that does Tofurkey roasts? I've been checking Camden Whole Foods daily, but their expected delivery hasn't arrived yet.

  • The new Tofurky roast with herb gravy is available in Whole Foods, Planet Organic, As Nature Intended, Holland & Barrett and many independent health food stores. Just ask the person in the shop to get it in for you! I also picked one up in Vx in King’s Cross.

  • Has anyone tried one of these yet? Their bangers are great but never taken a punt on the roast for some reason... I think they have them in WF High St Kensington

  • Excellent, thanks. The roast is the best vegan one I've had, would be disappointed going into Xmas Day with a Cheatin' one, very much a poor relation.

  • My only suggestions for places in Brighton are pretty junk foody. Kensington's for breakfast, Grubbs for cheap but good burgers, Pizza Me a Slice For You for pizza (might be take away only I think), Loving Hut for various styles with a culty feel, Bombay Aloo for all you can eat Indian food of wildly fluctuating quality and Beelzebab at the Hope and Ruin for kebabs, hot dogs, chilli cheese fries and loads of other stuff that will make your heart hurt.

  • It was easier for me, coming from 18 yrs veggie. But, things i found help me -
Plan ahead! Try and plan a few meals (lots of great easy recipes online, making vegan versions of favs a good place to start) I've foind it pretty easy, so long as I have some useful basics on hand.
Carry snacks!! Again, easier to stay on track if you have something available when you get hungry.
Treat yo' self! Find some tasty vegan treats, dark choc, fancy peanut butters, lunch out, whatever floats your boat. Enjoy! You'll be saving heaps on not buying dairy & meat anyways 👌

  • i'm thinking having a bit of a transition period, so milk (in coffee) and yoghurt would be ok in the first month, but no eggs or cheese (and no meat/fish of course). This means I basically eat the same breakfast (yoghurt with seeds/nuts/raisins) and lunch (beans/corn/seeds/nuts/salad - just need to replace the egg/cheese) so only have to plan evening meals.

  • I also went from ~15 years veggie, and just went cold turkey, but maybe a much bigger deal for you, coming from meat /dairy.

Personally, I switched when i came back off a snowboard holiday in France with lots of cheese. Lots.
Had made the decision in advance of the holiday. I've never looked back.

But my decision was fueled by my ever increasing horror and guilt about the dairy /egg industry, to the point where I just couldn't be part of it any more without being constantly in a state of depression about it.

So, the relief of being free from taking part in the horror overroad the desire to relapse.

And I've become a much better cook as a result!

And as others have said - don't beat yourself up about lapses/mistakes. I've not lapsed, but I've Fucked up a few times. My dad accidentally fed me a casserole the other day, while I was visiting, that had chorizo in! I ate around it...

  • There are ok vegan yogurts out there so that's an easy win.

  • As @T4NY4 said try some of the vegan yogurt options. My kids like the soya ones. I don't but the coconut yogurt is ok.
Luckily I drink coffee black, but I think out of all of the mylk options oat is the best in coffee. When we first cut out dairy we had a fridge full of all the different milk alternatives until we settled on the ones we like (some were terrible, so don't get put off if you get a bad one there are loads out there).

  • Might want to leave cheese as the last thing to drop, I did, and probably most others, found it the hardest!

Milk is super easy to drop, there's so many alternatives to try! As is meat (fish less so).

  • Try the sainsburys 'cheese' I really like it..

Quite a bit of variety. spreads, hard, wine cheese etc..

  • Surely the only fish worth eating is fish fingers (I didn't eat much fish before I stopped) - in which case vbites fish-less fish-fingers do the business ;)

  • Never had this myself so I'm gonna walk over to Sainsbury's tomorrow and grab some... I normally get Vegusto at Xmas but it's expensive for what it is... any favourites @Thrasher ?

  • The feta is a pretty good alternative. The cranberry thing is ok, bit chalky, drink port at the same time for best results.

  • Is there a recommended vegan port?

  • Pretty sure Taylors LBV and vintage ports are vegan. Dows too.

  • Cool. Thanks. Sounds like a choice then! Made mistakes with wine before. Was embarrassed.

  • Co-op label all their wines now, as do Sainos TTD, not fancy but at least it's a safe bet...

  • This. I like the cheddar as well. With red wine and a good cracker / biscuit

  • Thanks guys... port would be the first choice round the oldies, the old man's always got a bottle hiding somewhere... will try and get some of the cranberry and cheddar
