Subaru Outback for the win. Drives great, loads of space, goes of road better than all the soft readers due to 'proper' 4 wheel drive. The only thing that will slow you down is big rocks and lack of ground clearance.

I wanted a Legacy or 5 series estate. Overruled by Mrs Hefty because apparently the fact that it's her car means she gets to choose.

Hmmmm, she's using logic against you, counter with some cold hard facts. Lower CoG means a roll over in a crash is less likely.
