Things have moved on a bit from the last time I did any gaming (Sega Master System) and seems games now need registering/authenticating. Who knew? Everyone probably.

The serial number on the copy of Need for Speed I just bought off ebay is rejected as it's been used.

Return postage will cost me the larger part of the purchase cost so looks like I just learned an expensive lesson eh?

If you need to register to use it and you can't, then that's grounds for a return isn't it?

I'm assuming it was sold as "used/working", which it isn't without a valid serial number.

Send it back, having ripped an ISO (and done a shit in the box).
