Awesome, that chart makes it much easier to compare over the garmin website itself

So like a total idiot I have managed to delete all the underlying files from my garmin. By this I mean that when you plug into USB, all the files that were once there no longer appear. When I try and turn the Garmin on it gets stuck on "loading profiles" and goes no further. What can I do? Can someone send me their files so it boots correctly?
Edge 1000.

Methodology and link to system files here.

Cheers again. Tried that and no joy. Still stuck saying "loading profiles".

Worth a shot - If it was connected as a USB device when the deleting happened, perhaps the deleted files are in the Trash/Recycle Bin? If so, drag back onto the Garmin.

Hi,
I'm looking to pick up a second hand Garmin after Christmas, I was thinking about an 800 but wanted to check it was my best option. Basically it's just gonna be for telling me where to go, I'm not worried about ride data and want to get out of London more for single and multi day rides.
Initially I was looking at the Etrex (cuz of replaceable batteries) but they don't seem so popular and I figure I'll be alright with the 800 and a charging bank thing for a few days in the wilds. My main concern is that various people have reported them being a bit crashy, especially as I'm buying second hand. Is this something that gets worse with age and is it more or less inherent in all Garmins and is it really even a big issue?
Also are the preloaded maps actually any good and realistically how much will I need to spend for decent maps of the UK and maybe some of Europe?
Thaaanks

@Bobbygp I've had my Garmin 800 since 2012 and it' served me very well. Originally bought for exactly the same reasons, getting out of London/exploring. It does occasionally crash or loose connection to sensors. The base maps were a bit rubbish but I bought a Garmin Europe maps for £20 or so on eBay and navigating was significantly improved. I"m not sure, but you might be able to upload OpenStreetMaps for free, have a read online. I've also used successfully with a few different battery packs on longer rides or while travelling.
The only thing that makes me want to replace it is the USB port is getting very temperamental. It takes a number of attempts to connect to a computer and sync. So - if buying second hand perhaps ask if the owner can demonstrate it connecting and downloading a route or uploading a ride.

I've had an 800 for several years. Generally it's very good, but it occasionally turns itself off when I'm following a route that I uploaded - bit frustrating, but turning it on again fixes it........ Also, here's how to load free maps to your Garmin: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/05/download-garmin-705800810.html
These maps are great for road use, but if you're venturing into the wilds off road you might need to look somewhere else. -

Okay sweet, yeah that's pretty much what I wanted to hear!
Incidentally if anyone wakes up tomorrow with a shiny new Garmin in their stocking and wishes to relinquish their old one drop me a message :)

Will my Garmin 500 connect to ipad4? Is it possible to upload/ download rides using the camera USB cable adaptor?
Edit: further web searching has answered my question:no

This is possible on an android tablet using an OTG cable. It is also possible on some phones, just depends if your phone has enough oomph to power up the garmin, works on my Nexus 6P and Samsung S4, failed on a cheapo dual sim 4" screen special from gearbest.

I've got a 200 and use either Strava or Garmin Connect to plot routes, which are then loaded to the 200. The breadcrumb route is then followed, waypoints are within the breadcrumb trail !

Ridewithgps can also be used to build routes for the 200.

I've found Strava easier to use for plotting and transferring!

I think I've narrowed down the cause of the main issue I have with my 510.
After I plug it into a regular wall charger to charge it up, it refuses to start up.
Charged it before a ride yesterday and when I turned it on, it just hung on the Garmin splashscreen. Didn't get to the 'loading bla bla' bit at the bottom, just sat there.
If I then press or hold down the power button, it'll eventually switch off, but won't switch back on for a few mins, despite me pressing buttons, holding buttons and so on. Eventually it'll decide to start.
I charged it again before this morning's commute and it did the same thing again. Spent about 5 mins dicking about with it before it decided to start up. Didn't do anything special or different. It generally stays in my bag or on my bike between commutes in the week and I never have this issue, it's only after a charge. Anyone else see this or just me? Any idea what it might be?

Yesterday my Garmin didn't record any data for a 5 hour ride. It recorded the time but no miles, speed, calories etc. I kept it in my back pocket so couldn't say if it was displaying speed or miles during the ride.
This is the first time it has happened. I tried uploading the file to Strava but it only showed the length of time.
Any ideas what would cause this?
