This is I think an effort to offer something exotic to the locals - there certainly aren't many tourists here. Most coffee in Malaysia has margarine in it so freshly ground espresso makes a nice change. It was passable. Bought an aeropress and got them to grind me some coffee so I'll know soon how it fares.

I went to somewhere similar in Medan, North Sumatra. It seemed a bit incongruous in the general scheme of the city and there wasn't really anyone in there. It was a flagship of the processing mill in the city who do some very hi-tech, high quality processing with the best lots they handle. You can't often get nice coffee at all in producing countries but Indonesia keep some good stuff back to show everyone what they ought to be shooting at.
