i stacked it going round a roundabout 15 minutes ago. one moment i was up, the next the bike had completely washed out from under me.
socks and shorts ripped, bike is fine
hands covered in oil and the hole in my sock reveals a 50 pence sized hole in my skin on my ankle, which is filled with black oily shit from the road
am guessing there may have been some oil on the road

Sorry to hear that. Where did this happen? I lost my rear wheel a couple of times this morning too.

'Oil' or diesel-solvented bituminous road surface?
I'm told that HGV's often fill their fuel tanks to the brim,
then when traversing roundabouts a little too quickly,
the fuel slops out through some kind of poor overflow valve,
dumping some diesel on the road surface,
which then solvents some of the bituminous wearing layer to an 'oily' mess. -

I had an off this morning on a load of diesel in Lewisham, legs covered with an oily rainbow film. Slight grazes and a bit of bar tape lost but definitely need to be careful out there.

I'm assuming you leaned?
Thought you knew better.... -

Hope you're feeling better this morning @dancing james ?
I had an off the Friday before last on a roundabout, where the front wheel just slid out from under me, even though I wasn't going fast. I didn't hang around to check out the road surface as there was a lot of traffic, but given how quickly I went down, I'n guessing there was something slippery on the surface.

I am feeling a scraped, bruised and my back feels stiff. Good lump on my hip/femur but am sure it will all heal up fast.
My incident sounds pretty identical to yours, jra and suddenly on the ground. I am wondering if they have changed the road salt forumla this year.

I had an off in v similar circumstances on E&C roundabout on Thursday, winging round as I do p. much every day and my bike just slid out from underneath me.. Got back and my clothes (and my skin where there are now holes in the clothes) were covered in black slimy gunk. I think y'all are on to something with the salt water dispersal agent thing. Is it possible to feed this back to the council that they're creating super hazardous conditions?

My motorbike felt very lively going around E&C on Thursday night. I reckon there must have been something spilled the day...

Stacked it in Leytonstone Friday (9th) night. A car tried a last-second overtake on a skinny sharp corner forcing me into the inside of the turn. Cornering too fast and suspected oil on the road meant the bike came out from underneath me, face hit the concrete and knocked me out for a few seconds. Fractured the base of my skull and am now under observation for anything funny going on in my tiny brain. Still in hospital so I haven't been able to check out the oil on the road. By the way, the car legged it!
I should point out that I wasn't wearing a helmet and if I was I doubt I'd be couped up in a bed at Whipp's Cross Hospital googling bike lids. Be safe out there.

if you had been wearing one you would likely be googling for a new one, as they are only intended for a single impact
it is not clear that helmets prevent concussion - as that is from your brain bouncing inside your skull
heal up fast

• #1816
Yeesh, hope you're feeling ok soon!
-
• #1817
Thanks pal.
Concussion maybe not, but I'm sure it would have prevented the fracture.
Reason I'm still in hospital is the fracture may be letting air from my sinus into my brain which can then lead to meningitis.

rider got hit right behind me on weds night. landrover doing a turn into oncoming traffic, pretty much just got past myself and then heard the guy just behind getting hit. stopped to help out etc, haven't heard from the guy so assume he is fine, has my number etc.
I have been feeling my lights aren't up to the task, yet the guy that got hit had a proper set up and the lights were fucking bright and noticeable, i guess sometimes it just doesn't matter.
shit drivers are gonna be shit no matter what.

Anyone know anything about a rider down on Royal Mint Street/Cable Street bike highway this morning (15/12)? Came to it once emergency services on the scene (09:00ish)- paramedics were treating someone stuck under a fuck off massive van that had turned across the bike highway...
presuming it would be grim all round - though cant see any reports about it so perhaps no news is good news

I can't find anything, either (yet). A considerable majority of crashes is never reported--slight injuries are generally not, but also a lot of serious injuries. Fatalities are generally reported. Fingers crossed the rider was only lightly injured, although it doesn't sound like it from your observations.

I did pretty much exactly the same thing... hematoma is now thinking about reducing.

It seems there are a lot of reasonably experienced cyclists just falling off their bikes. Has anyone else tweeted TFL to ask about what is causing this?
Yes, that's true, good point. Will be gathering everything together once I'm home with not much else to do. Cheers.
