Those welds... pukes
Think this histogram has the best paintjob. Patient man, waiting till the summer to build it up -
• #3
I thought I would spend half a year building my last bike for same reason but ended up doing it in just over a month!
Lush frame btw.

If you can get it to look as good as this you're onto a winner. (Ignore the chainring and radial lacing)

@kjlem Yeah, I'm not ready to love them yet, too
@JamesQGM Hah, I mean it though! I really lack in money right now :(
@Alphaone Thomson yo! Even if they are quite standard nowdays. And I'm not a digger for the 75DD, the bolts on the NDS arm and the huge axle look whack.
@badmanlongtime I'll match the color scheme ;)
@Dogs I'm struggling a bit with the wheels. I really wanna go for 20f/24r and some 38ish carbon rims but it doesn't seem very practial. Next option is 20f/24r Archetypes but again, I don't know how cool that is with the streetz. Won't be a racing/velodrome build.
@Thuekr Exactly that picture was one of the biggest triggers for me! Hands down the best build of the 2014 Histo. I'm afraid I'm not as tall as you though, haha -

New crank day!
Sugino 75
Most beautiful cranks. Ever.
Shot them for not much money on Thursday last week on eBay and got them today. NIB condition, not even unpacked!Sadly the NJS mark is drilled out

Sadly the NJS mark is drilled out
Only the silver ones are NJS. Nice cranks nonetheless!

I know. But I've seen blue ones with the NJS stamp even if they aren't NJS certified. So I was hoping to get one of the stamped ones ;)

Got the next bit thanks to @Elra! Thomson X2 100mm/10° in lovely condition!
Might be a tad too long (aesthetically at least) but I think it still suits it well
The wheels are a tough one. First choice: Mack low flange on 38mm china carbonz. Might not be the best choice for street abuse though.
Second: Mack low flange on Archetypes with 20f/24r. I'm superlightweight (61kg) so it shouldn't be a big deal but I'm still unsure. The wheels will see some pot holes and curbs so a higher spoke count should be the better way. But looks first!
You'll see me in the wheel building thread in the next few months I guess ;)
Biggest downer on this matter: Mack doesn't seem to be available anymore. Their site is down for over 4 straight months now and I really don't know any alternative. DT Swiss maybe?Anyways, wheels should be the finishing part of this project. I like to buy small bits from time to time than saving up money for 2-3 months ;)
Cheers!

I enjoy a 140mm stem on My Histogram HP
-

Mack is still around. Just forgot to pay for his website or smth. Drop him an email :)
Also at 61kg, 20/24 and 38mm carbon will be fine, even for london potholes. Not sure I'd recommend it for a first wheel build though
-
• #14
I recommend the 20/24 38mm china carbonz 1st time build if DT comp are used and nipple washers (what I do on china carbons, see wheel building thread).

I'm afraid I'm not as tall as you though, haha
;)
@Turkish AAAAWWWWW YISSSSSS mackhubs@o2.pl is the email right?
I already built 3 wheels. One got stolen and 2 are running solid on my daily since 3 years. All 32h 3x though. Should be cool as long as carbon wheels are built the same way as normal wheels. If carbon is tough enough to hold up against reckless street riding, I'm in for it. I'm still afraid it'll be too much bling though.

Halfway house between 38mm carbons and Archtype
https://www.dtswiss.com/Components/Rims-Road/RR-511-dbI built a pair with the rim braked version which are 40g heavier, onto Ridea hubs (road front and high flange fixed rear) with 20f/24r revolutions. First build in 20 years and they went together very easily, except for watching out for the revolutions winding up. First ride out had a pheasant fly into the front wheel and ended up decapitating it 😂 local roads are quite ropey with plenty of potholes and patch repairs. They haven't needed any work since building.
1033g front with rimstrip, 23mm GP 4000 and Schwalbe innertube (Not including skewer)
1278g rear as above, with 16t cog and included lockring and allen bolts ready to ride -

Miche hubs are the dogs danglies, they do a small flange version of their track hubs, if you contact Malcolm of http://thecycleclinic.co.uk/ (https://www.lfgss.com/profiles/109351/), I think he can get miche hubs in custom drillings.
-
• #18
Nah man, I really don't wanna use Miche anymore. I have one in the front and had it in the rear, it's durable and cheap af but I broke the outer and inner nuts quite often. Also they don't look nice :P
@user69121 thanks but I want to stick with Archetypes or carbon right now. But I feel you! DT Revos are pain while truing.

I was contemplating those two options for the fixie, but bottled carbon as we have plenty of long hills and I still have bandy runners legs, so brake quite a lot without the luxury of a freewheel.
I was also unsure of front fork clearance for the 23mm wide Archtype so went slightly safer. I also fancied being able to use the front wheel on the tt bike for wind days, and the deeper U profile of the 511 seemed to fit the bill for a few grams extra. So decision made.

Nice project, by far the best colour way that frame comes in.
Can confirm Mack is still active, just ordered some stuff for my hubs from him yesterday. And yes that's the correct email address.
As a cheap theft deterrent (not theft proof unfortunately) you can use bolts such as the ones below, just need to ensure you carry the special Allen key with you in case of a puncture. Allen key and bolts together were less than £5 I think

Thanks! I'm really relieved that Mack is still around. Anyone knows if I can order the hubs with regular nuts? If not, I'll keep the bolts in mind!
@user69121 I'll probably run 25mm tyres so the wider the better ;)
-
• #22
Yes they come with standard Allen bolts, this^ was just my advise since you said you had a wheel stolen before and were planning on commuting with the wheels
You can also ask him for end caps to fit bikes with different rear spacing. I've got one frame with 120mm and one with 126mm so can use the wheelset on both frames. Currently buying caps for 130mm as I'm planning on buying a new bike with th that spacing -
• #23
Ah my bad, I meant nuts instead of bolts of course ;) edited it in the previous post.
-
• #24
Planning a similar wheelset myself, interested to see what you end up with but sounds like it'll be awesome!

Quite some time went by!
I made some progress today as I shot Mack (what's his actual name?) a mail asking for some infos. I didn't make any progress regarding wheel set though.
The options are still 20f/24r carbon rims or Archetypes with a slightly higher spoke count but I probably will go for carbon as I prefer the look a bit more. So hard to decide if it's only about the looks since both seem to be suitable for street and semi-rat lyf
Since there aren't many Histogram projects here, I'll start one. Some of you might know me for whining about the welds in the Mash thread recently.
Story is, I saw this frame the first time when Mash introduced it in June 3 years ago. I wanted it (like, seriously) but never had the moneyz. Let's be honest, $950 is quite a load of dollars for just the frameset. So I kept wetting my pants while dreaming of it and riding my Bianchi conversion.
I only knew that I'd own this frame one day, didn't know when though. The plan was to buy it beaten up for about 600€ someday.
Long story short, last month while I was visiting a friend in Amsterdam wingedstore posted a factory sale on IG. Checked it, frame was on sale AND my size, I broke my piggybank.
So here it is, the frame I have been waiting for 3 years.
It's size M/57cm and comes with fork, headset and seatclamp.
I already have a rough idea what parts I'm gonna use, it's not final though. But some nice SG75s were shot on eBay today ;)
I'll keep you updated with parts I ordered or consider to do so. And I also want to hear your opinions on my stupid ideas.
Beware, this thread isn't going to be a quicky. I hope to get this built up by summer 2017 since I don't have a backup piggybank. Cheers!
