Post? - save the environment and a skint would-be promuter - If you can be arsed, that is. I'll pay, of course.

Gutted. Oh well, if he decides against the noggin' protection do let me know, or if indeed you are jettisoning any other helmets (optional innuendo for free!)

Alright, I'm going to join the helmet brigade.
By buying this:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/poc-octal-avip-mips-helmet-2017/rp-prod133155POC Octal AVIP MIPS.
Looks decent enough.

definitely 100% go to shop and try various helmets and sizes
-
• #1032
Free returns, and I measured up first. I already had a POC for MTB and that fitted well, so I'm comfortable with ordering another POC with road in mind.
If it doesn't fit, it can go straight back and I'll get another. It's not like I'm riding in the next few weeks.
The problem with shops: They have too little selection from too few manufacturers.
The problem with online: You can't try it on and it's a hassle to buy and return.
But oh well... we've done it to ourselves. We try stuff on and order online, so shops now carry far less. I choose the hassle.

that's what i use for on road, and i have their off road helmet too
i was working in Merton last week teaching and the council insist trainers wear helmets. i was barely aware it was even on my head, comfiest helmet i have ever worn.

Do you also have the orange?
Crazily I thought the white is too bright... too stark. The orange at least is highly visible whilst not being a single colour (white contrasts) so doesn't look as huge.
-
• #1035
i have the white one, the reflective bits are great
orange would be harder to coordinate

After Thursday, I'm willing to forego a little fashion matching.

Fair, get a good hair wax
-
• #1038
I have a small head, most helmets make me look like a mushroom, way to bulky. Any recommendations for less bulky helmets?
-
• #1039
The orange faded very fast in the sun- should last years in the U.K.

Kask Mojito
-
• #1041
POC is best helmet I've ever had.
-
• #1042
What I would say is that the white shell will get very dirty and grubby for commuting duties.
They do a sans mips version too.
-
• #1043
I only want MIPS. I've still got a Kask I like, but I want MIPS after the other day.
-
• #1044
I went for the Giro Synth MIPS, the POC made me look like a child with a bread bin on its head
-
• #1045
so, after the boss gets knocked off deliberately by a car driver, and hurts everything bar his head we are talking about highly specified bits of polystyrene for our heads. And you still eschew cycle training?
-
• #1046
Me personally? Or was that addressed to someone else?
For me, I'm willing to review everything. I had a lucky escape from a potentially far more severe outcome. Nothing can guarantee there won't be a next time, and now I've had a reminder of mortality and fragility I'll definitely take some precautions, mitigations as appropriate.
Why a helmet now and seldom before? I'd never really considered that a driver would hit a cyclist on purpose. I figured my safety was in my control. A failure of imagination on my part.
-
• #1047
No not you personally. There are a lot of people here and elsewhere who are resistant to being trained to cycle.
Experienced cyclists are possibly the hardest to train, yet it is easily the best thing going to improve your chances. MIPS is the last thing. -
• #1048
@skydancer wants to train me. I'll accept when I'm able to ride again.
Whether I'll listen is another thing. Damn I'm stubborn.
-
• #1049
Listen to someone else then. But please accept training from someone, and then encourage others to do so too.
Hell, even, come to sunny Reading and I'll arrange it for you.
The resistance to cycle training is bonkers. There is a whole tonne of stuff that has been rehearsed, tried and refined and the most experienced cyclists are the most reluctant to use it. And then they get in some awful scrape and fail to see that they had any part to play in it, when actually they do.
Cycle training is for you, at least as much as the ten year old in school. You need to use everything at your disposal, ruling out on the bike training is pretty petty, and for the proud. Not for the wise. -

Well good vb. You won't have to listen, you'll experience, quite quickly, a difference. (It worked for @dancingjames
-on many levels)
I've bought a new helmet does anyone want my old one? Its a Kask Vertigo size Medium in white, never crashed used for about a year. Collection before I bin it.
