  • Locate your iPhone’s serial number (you can find the serial number on the back of your iPhone and in Settings>General>About).
Check for the following characters located in the 4th and 5th position of your iPhone’s serial number:
    Q3
    Q4
    Q5
    Q6
    Q7
    Q8
    Q9
    QC

Apple store staff will be replacing batteries with spare parts where available, but otherwise will be sending out for battery replacement stock or in some cases replacing the entire device.

  • Oooo im eligible for this by serial number, do i just need an appt?

  • I turned up without an appt because #yolo. 10 mins in the queue and 10 mins at the Genius Bar with the nerd. They have no check for shutdown, just the range of serials potentially affected, so as long as you say you're suffering and your phone serial is in the range they'll book you in. If you can live with the problem I'd maybe give it until after Xmas when the battery stock levels should have stabilised and they'll do it while you wait instead of having to make two trips.

  • my office is 30 seconds from the covent garden store, will pop in tomorrow

  • Just rock up looking like you about to buy an Android. Mention the Google Pixel.

  • Hello Mac people.

I've just received my shiny new macbook pro. Annoyingly all Microsoft office (word excel etc) applications crash instantly.

Apparently this is a known issue with Sierra but the new mbp won't allow me to roll back to an older version of the OS. Microsoft also describe a workaround where I turn off auto proxy discovery but these are already turned off.

Any other solutions? Slightly annoying to receive a non functioning machine.

  • Try this:

    1. Open a Finder window and go to the Applications folder
    2. Hold down the Control key on your keyboard and click on the Microsoft Outlook icon and pick "Show Package Contents" from the pop-up menu
    3. Go to the Contents/SharedSupport folder and open the "Outlook Profile Manager" app
    4. Delete the Main Profile: Select it once it shows up and then click the minus sign
    5. If you have a previous backup of the Profile it will re-create a new one or you will have to re-enter your account info
    6. Start Outlook normally

^ change 'Outlook' for whatever app

  • And try these updates:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3074482

It seems that certain versions of MS updater don't recognise the correct updates

  • I saw that suggestion, but people seemed to be saying that it only worked for Outlook (which I don't use). I just checked in word and there is no "word profile manager" app.

I'll try doing it just for Outlook and see if it helps.

  • oooh this update looks promising... my version of office is 15.11.2 whereas the update here is 15.12.3... fingers crossed.

  • You could also consider changing to a different App for your word/excel needs... Open Office is decent I hear and you can open your old word docs in it.

This worked for word, and I'm installing the updates for excel and ppt now. Thank you!

@chrisbmx116 yes, I've tried OpenOffice on another machine and it worked ok for most situations but the version I had really struggled with track changes which is pretty core to a lot of my work.

  • Hurrah! Glad you have things working... which Macbook Pro did you get? I am getting tempted...

  • No worries, glad you got it sorted.

  • It's the 13inch, 2.9 GHz, 8 GB RAM version.

It wasn't planed at all. My older MBP has a problem with the RAM and although it sometimes runs ok, it frequently crashes into an un-wakeable black screen where it just beeps at me until the battery runs out. I tried to get it fixed but the apple technicians said the problem was caused by too much exposure to moisture (it had spent a lot of time in tropical countries without aircon) and was terminal. I simply ordered the cheapest version that was at least as powerful as my old machine. I only found out that there was a new model when I was placing the order!

It is very pretty though :-)

  • I'm getting one.
The cheapest 15" to get the radeon gpu for all my cad drawing.
I'm not sure if it's better to just order from apple now, sit back and await delivery around new years or if I should hope it will show up in stock in a local shop before that.

  • Upgrade the gpu at least. The 460 isn't far behind the desktop card. £100 card, but still.

  • I was given an estimated 4-5 week delivery time, but it turned up in less than a week.

  • Already struggling to afford the base model. :/

  • My 6s shut itself off when going from outside to the tube this morning and just displayed the battery and cable screen when I tried to turn it back on.
Eventually, after about ten minutes of London's finest geothermal heat, it switched back on normally. Battery level was >50%, as before.
First time this has happened and it's not under the affected serial numbers of the models that had a battery issue.

Guessing it was temperature related or perhaps condensation tripping something.

  • : /

  • My 4s does that all the time.
I guess you're more forgiving with older phones though.

  • Apparently it's pretty common in cold temps.

It was in a coat pocket but I'd been out in 2 degrees for nearly an hour at that point
