The plan is 'have cake and eat it' and the EU negotiating team is 'very French'.

I'd say it sounds like something school children came up with but that would be unfair (on school children).

Apparently the French version of the saying is "you can't have the butter, the money from the butter and the milkmaid's arse".

So there you go.
