^I don't tend to sit on my chimney when I have the fire going so I don't care.

This aside, is chasing in wires the best option?
And can they be put in a heat proof tube? I didn't just say that last bit because quite rightly what would they be doing anywhere close to a source of heat?

Why not just remove some of the alcove shelves?

Large flat screen TVs on chimney breasts can look a bit out of place. Especially in smaller rooms.
If you have a modest sized room, get a modest sized telly and stick it in the corner. Then let the focal point of the room be your lovely wood burner.
If you want a big screen for occasional use, a projector onto the chimney breast might be better. Solves the chasing in the wires conundrum too.

Because they were such a bastard to make.

Projector most likely at this stage. It's about 4x5m. Open plan staircase in one corner, door to kitchen in other corner, door to utilities cupboard/alcove shelves in third corner, alcove shelves/windows in last corner.
Or I'll just get a load of VR headsets. Only half-joking.

I guess that depends on if you have a fireplace or not...
Ours is a small room with a 55" TV and it looks great:

DO NOT DO IT.
Get a Samsung serif TV and have it on its legs.
Wall mounted TV's.. nope...edit: although the above example doesn't look too bad.

Hover cat much?

Do a google. All will be revealed.

That's a good point. Have had various burners at previous places and you're right they're a bloody mess.

They look well shit. Give them to me and I'll see they're properly disposed of.
If your ambition is to have a Dali'esque TV then this is the route to go, otherwise I'd choose another option
