New project which will be on the backburner until I accumulate the right parts. Found a nice Gitane track frame in France for a good price, not sure whether it's a super pista or mexico pista (the latter has only the 3 main tubes made out of Reynolds 531 tubes, the super pista is 531 throughout). Features nice Bocama lugs with cutouts. My plan, if there is one, is to build this up as a period incorrect (mild) hhsb. Was thinking/hoping DA high flange hubs laced to black box section rims (possibly mavic to match the decals) & hopefully I can find some affordable DA cranks to match. I probably won't be starting to build this until the next year though. Would be interested to hear your ideas and opinions for a build. Seller's pics, disregard the fugly wheels, it's just to show the geometry.

I'm pretty sure it is the mexico as it looks identical to the one i own. Mine is the original pearlescent white but these colours look nice! Shallow black rims and a mix of black and silver would do it for me.

Cheers, black and silver will be the way to go but I 'm not yet settling on specific parts, I'll just see what comes along. Ideally, I'd like to have DA cranks and high flange hubs but if I can score a pair of reasonably priced sugino s75s or even suntour superbe cranks I wouldn't mind either.
@Alphaone Glad you like the colour, I dig it too. And If I get bored with the colour I can still go full resto and paint it gitane racing blue (love that colour in combination with yellow highlights), although I think that the paintjob will stay like this at least for the next couple years. I really like your m heredia project, I figure the mavic starfish crank wouldn't look too bad on the gitane, either.
@wqvm I guess the purple somac hubs might work on this frame but I'm not a big fan of colourfully anodized aluminium. Moreover, if the frame were to be replaced at some point in the future, I'd like to be able to use the wheelset on another bike so I'll go for neutral black/silver bits.P.s. why are gitane decals so damn expensive (40€). IIRC, I only paid like 10€ for the concorde decals...

Looks nice, are the dropouts damaged?
-
• #111183
right-hand side dropout is a little bent, but should be fixable. The frame itself is straight according to the seller who seems to know his stuff...

I dunno, I guess/hope so and I'll definitely keep the paint job for now as I really like it :)

that looks more like angle grinder then bent to me..
-
• #111186
More like twisted not bent... hope it was cheap

• #111187
I guess I'll have to wait till I see the frame in the flesh but I think it's just the angle of the photo with the lower part of the track end being bend towards the camera.
I paid roughly 100 pounds which seems like a good price to me. -

Looks awesome, hopefully the dropouts are easily fixable. Can't wait to see it finished!

Picking up a rear Mavic Cosmic SL thats a bit out of true today for super cheap, Plan is to relace to a new hub for Balk Project. Are these hubs worth anything?

Are these hubs worth anything?
If there's no wear on the shell where the freehub rotor bushing runs, it should be possible to find somebody who has used their Cosmic in all weathers who is in want of a new hub.
