Stiff-up your brush: paint porn

Do different colour basecoats influence the range of colours you get from flip paint, or do they specify what you should use underneath (or else it doesn't work)?

So, so good.

Dark colours increase the flip effect but make the colours darker - with the black base coat the colours go from greeny yellow through bronze to purple rather than red to gold, which I suspect it would with a white base. Next experiment is going to be navy/plum flip over a silver base. No idea what it will look like. Basically, I've no idea what I'm doing really. Just playing with paint. It's all good.

48/23. Very spinny on the flats, but not that easy up Sa Calobra. Like I explained to a friend of mine - it's too high up the climbs, too low on the flats, and fucking useless on the descents...

So someone tell me please: does anyone know of a painter who's definitely able to do (what I'm gonna call, no idea if it's right) 'crackle' paint i.e. this effect:

keen on trying it yourself? I've thought about using the Montana crackle effect paint in combination with one of their acrylics over a frame I've got that needs painting... Would probably get it professionally lacquered after if it looks good

I have a fantasy of yellow bg with red crackle, and it's there on that^ site, but also hoping for a lilac top colour too. Wonder if it's easy to fade the top colour off and then switch to another...

Fading the base coat is definitely possible, this job had every paint buzzword imaginable:

@Turkish Aha yes of course, two colours on the undercoat then the crackle is one colour.

So I'm going golden yellow fade to lilac, red crackle. Niiiice.

Maybe. Might do it myself... but need a workshop as crackle needs a bit of warmth (10-25C) to work.

First of all, going to take it to Winston for some more braze-ons...
