    Basically saying that the very title of the races invokes distances that impress spectators, who would only consider those journeys doable by car or train.

    Imagine if they started promoting a one-day classic in the U.K. called London-Chester (for example) or Cardiff-Bangor. That would get people out, because they can relate to the distance travelled.

    Having said that, cycling isn't struggling to attract crowds in the UK. And the article actually goes on to discuss the attraction of shortened pro races, which generate more action.
