Thanks for the reassurance, just emailed London Fields for good measure also. The wheels will be going on a Croix De Fer so QR it is, I will start a project thread soon and stop derailing here.

So it wouldn't be possible to swap between the stock Surly wheels and 650b Mtb wheels without swapping the mech?
That sucks.
Also to clarify, I'll be running Shimano 10 speed

What rear hub, cassette, mech and shifter do you have at the moment?

No, it is 100% possible, @amey was being obscure.
Any MTB wheelset will be fine, as they share freehubs spindle as their road brethren (with the exception of the latest 11 speeds, as some MTB wheels can go up to 11 speed).

Went out for a very short, steep bridleway ride on the horizons after a fair bit of brake fettling. Didn't die as I'd expected!
Rolled pretty well on tarmac, not as supple as compass obviously but the increased volume made up for that. Lower bb on straggler felt good round corners but did clip pedals hauling myself over a couple of stairs/sleepers - might have just been lack of concentration. Definitely cleared more of the fist-size rock section that with 35c, could probably have made the whole thing with a little less air and if there wasn't a horse coming the other way... Hopefully get out for some evening rides when this cold clears up...

Nice! I've got the 2016 pine mountain as a baby carrier/snow bike.

Looks like you get a better spec on the 2017, are there any other changes ? It's a great bike but seems to stop rolling v quickly when you ease off the pedals not sure if it's my brakes rubbing.

Bearings too tight is another thought. Spin each wheel and see.

42mm width, native tubeless, what options exist please?

anyone know maybe there's some budget price 650b rims with braking surface?

Just riding along has them doesn't he? A23 with braking?

Pair of Ruffy Tuffy going cheap here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rivendell-Ruffy-Tuffy-650b-Tyres-Pair-New-/192001642900?hash=item2cb4309194:g:vgMAAOSwPCVYB32i

Targeted SPAM! If anyone wants to be super cool and tour the world on 650b I have a set of the fancy folding Marathon Mondials surplus to requirements - measure a true 2.0 on 30mm rims, bit heavy but if their predecessors (Marathon XR) are anything to go buy they should last 10 years...

WTB Horizon - where can they be purchased from?
Found them on 1 .DE site but they were pricey.

SBC cycles have them in store

If you're looking for road-oriented, Panaracer Gravelking 2.75"x 1.75" is the only thing I've found in my hunts.
That said, loads of people run Babyshoes tubeless without issue.

My new 38mm Pari-Motos (via @pryally) measure up at 40mm. Is this common with these or is my rim making it wider? (21mm internal 26mm external)
Looking at the clearance I doubt I'm going to get the wider gravel kings (27.5x1.75) in there so might have to arrange an exchange with winstanleys. I guess it could be that these measure big and gravel kings measure small? (They've not arrived yet)

My 38mm Pari-Moto measure 37.6mm on rims 23mm external and 18mm internal.
So, yes, it could be the rims but also pressure or how much use the tyres have got.
If the 27.5x1.75 Gravel Kings don't work for you and prefer not to send them back I might be interested. -

They make a 27.5" x 1.5" Gravel King too!

I'm thinking about converting a road bike to 650b. What good long reach brakes are there?
-
• #750
I think Tektro 559 are the goto brake
My Vapour wheel is 11 speed compatible, I think that is 11 speed otherwise they'd mentioned 10 speed.
BTW if you're using thru-axles, you really gonna struggle pulling off the QR adaptor cap as it felt like it need a tool to removed it.
