I can't believe I didn't clock the church of St. Alphage.
Every morning I stop at the lights next to it.
My force feels like it has abandoned me :( -

Old:
Christ Church Blackfriars Road.
One night in 1941 known, at the time, as The Wednesday, when the Luftwaffe were doing their thing, the church was bombed and caught fire. Where the paved crucifix is today, is where the burning cross fell from the church roof and scorched the grass.New:
We're looking at the two lower buildings in the foreground. One with the eaves facing the road, the closer one with a lower flat roof - not the pebble-dashed semi behind.
Now residential, but not so long ago a workshop belonging to an Italian family run business which had been trading in England for over 100 years, and up until towards the end of the last century their order book was full, with a three year waiting list for their products. -

Mahogany.
That was one of the materials readily used in this place.
And, according to one member of the family, the skills of no fewer than 10 different craftsmen were required to finish one of their products before it was ready to leave the premises. -

Apparently, if you've done time in HMP, there's a very good chance that you will have had some exposure to one of the items produced in these premises.
