My partner still has the tarpaulin that belonged to her grandfather and was standard issue to infantrymen in WW1. We still use it in the winter as a cover for our rabbit's hutch to keep the worst of the winter weather from them.
The 4th Battalion of the S Lancs. Regiment landed at Le Harve in Feb 1915 and served on the Western Front.

Managed to stump myself with the theme - had hoped to find some proper chunky engineering fixes: steel plates and rivets sort of thing, but didn't manage to find anything good enough. I like the variety of shots that has been entered though.
