I think someone else warned me off Nobby Nics but now I can't find their comments.
"Despite what they look like, they are not that great in muddy conditions as they just clog."
One of the guys in my club suggested "Tubeless-Easy Snakeskin Schwalbe Rocket Rons Evos (2.25"). Fantastic allround mtb tyre."
I'll add yours to the list.

Possibly the older version, or the cheapo ones.
@Howard wasn't too impressed with some Schwalbes he had, but I forget what they were.

Rocket Rons are good as a rear tyre with a more aggressive front for winter riding. I wouldn't put them on the front for a winter race though. Nics or something else.
@AdsH knows his race tyres.
I'll be 'racing' at Crowthorne this weekend on a racing ralph rear and a nic up front.
Yeah, you don't really want to go much above 2.2 with a narrow rim.
You don't need a huge amount of tread for Thetford, even in the Winter. If you're racing, then something fast rolling, but within reason. Maybe a Shwalbe Nobby Nic front/ Racing Ralph rear or Maxxis Ardent front/ Crossmark rear.
This place is good, if you need them quickly.

Try to avoid the cheaper compounds from Schwalbe and C**tinental, as they're a bit plasticy and will try to kill you.
