  • Thanks - I did wonder about that.

    I don't really want to service anything; just want it to work. I'd be happy to replace each year or so but every couple of months seems a bit excessive.

    Previous ones were left to their own devices so I thought I'd try a bit of TLC on this one but now see the error...

  • They're easy to service. I got the gf's another year or so of life each time I stripped it down. It now has a better Shimano freewheel fitted but will eventually need a proper regrease, repeat.

  • Ok, I'm persuaded. Will invest in tool.

  • I didn't know you could get to the bearings? I presumed ChasnotRobert was talking about a single speed freewheel.

    What does a pin tool actually look like? Googled it and got a freewheel lock nut and a pin spanner. Can't work out how either works to get to the bearings
