  • Force Touch trackpad twice the size of previous trackpad. Can't help but think the keyboard must be tiny. In the photo the keyboard is dwarfed by the "space grey" metal around the edges. Large speakers all down the left and right. Butterfly switch keyboard as per MacBook (though they claim "2nd generation" iteration).

  • New function thing is called "touch bar" and is a retina display which can do all the same gubbins as an iPad. It's adaptive to software. Customisable per app with software support.
Have to say, scrolling through the timeline on editing software looks pretty cool.
Also features, surprise surprise, TouchID in place of/complementing the power button.

  • There's still a function key button. Hold it down and TouchBar turns into traditional function and will remain that way until contextual change per app.

  • Summary, Touch Bar seems pretty cool but heavily reliant on software support which to begin with will obviously be tied to Apple so unless you use Mail, Pages, Safari and Siri you're fucked.

Hoping for a surprise reveal of a touch screen iMac on hinges but might be out of luck on that.

  • This is stupid. I've had touch screen devices separate to my workstation screen for years, and it's a pain in the arse because I have to look at something else, and I just don't use it.

Why don't they just make the main laptop screen a touchscreen? I've got a now ageing Sony laptop with a touchscreen and I can't go back to regular laptops now, I keep trying to touch the screen.

  • 15"

    i7 processor
AMD polaris graphics up to 4gb cards
    3.1gbps storage up to 2TB

    13"

    i5/i7
    Iris only.

    4 x ports only

    thunderbolt 3/usbc

they're all interchangeable for power/hdmi/tb/usb etc. quite nifty in a sense but a lot of adapter manufacturers are going "kerching" right now.

  • New 5K display - made by LG...!?

They're saying 2 of these displays can be powered by the 15" laptop - 35million pixels. would love to see how sluggish that gets.

  • Yeah, not making them themselves? Interesting.

  • "Right here on the touch bar I can see my timeline". You can also see it clearer on the screen directly above it you chump.

  • Ok, third party software. Now we're talking.

First up, Adobe talking about potatochop.

long and short = looks quite nice but nothing life changing. available before 2017.

  • Where do they get these people?

  • DJ Pro guy flailing by trying to claim TouchBar (a single linear line of touch screen control) is more useful for live use than a tangible control panel. Can really see that going well in a sweaty club with drinks being spilt everywhere.

Apple guy said "he just killed it, that was so much fun to listen to" audience laughed.

  • 8gb memory lol

  • Actually they are impressively fucking small though. Wish I hadn't just been given a macbook pro 3 months ago.

  • Whatever happened to the 17" macbooks anyway. I want one of them again.

  • MacBook Pro:
To sum up - more hyperbole than a Trump speech. Nothing exciting. Can see the TouchBar being very useful and equally a fucking nightmare. No more ports (inc SD slot) except for the 4 TB/USBCs could be a pain. Headphone jack still there though so we can at least paint a picture of Apple's 'special event' in 2 years time.

They're also releasing a 13" pro without TouchBar with traditional function keys as an alternative for their MacBook Air customers though they claim the Air will still retail for some time yet.

    Prices:

    1499, 1799, 2399 USD

    Order today. Shipping 2-3 weeks.

  • Was desperately hoping for a surprise iSwoggle announcement at the end but nothing. What a waste of an hour.

  • Entry level 15 inch MacBook Pro is £2349! Wasn't long ago it was £1599.

  • Was about to say that's dollars but you're right, the 15inch entry level is 2349. Cripes.

  • 4049 for upgraded processor, ram, storage and gfx. Fuck me..

  • Let down. Spec, prices, meh.
Same thing, bit thinner, with a touch bar, rubbish.
    Not dropping 3k on that.
Would rather buy one of those Razor laptops or even the HP things with no bezel and touch screen.

  • That's 1000GBP more than my absolutely fully specced iMac 5k less than 12 months ago. What the actual fuck.

  • How does the top MacBook compare to the Surface in terms of spec and price now?
