Vacuum sealed seitan 2 weeks past its expiry date, any reason I shouldn't eat it (it looks fine, no mold)?
-
• #3153
How's it been stored?

In the fridge

It tasted fine, not dead yet...

That's good. Having trouble with getting spacers off fork. I'll drop saw back Thursday. If your not dead by then. In which case I'll assume you left it too me in your will.

There has been a spate of burglaries of small businesses in Hackney recently, and the latest victim is Black Cat:

Having trouble with getting spacers off fork.
Why are you eating those?
I'll drop saw back Thursday.
That may have sounded like a good idea at the time, but it won't have helped with digesting the bits.

100g of spacers = 100% of RI of iron, calcium and magnesium.
Thankfully passing a saw through the digestive tract is used widely accepted as a powerful anti inflammatory medicine.

not so keen on the Italian bus on hackney road. might of just been an off night but food was average and the beer too pricy to bother with.
I liked the tiny hashbrowns there but the veg burger I had was pretty bad. Wish we'd picked somewhere else!

Oh, and the blogger who set up the JustGiving page was FGV, no surprises there. Only just looked:

Wish I'd have seen this, I was out later but it would have been nice to pop around there for dinner. I hadn't heard of this outfit before.

Anyone going to VegFest?
I'll see if I'm in the mood tomorrow. I tried to book advance ticket a while ago but couldn't, as it required a mobile number, strangely. Having seen the queues last year, I'm not sure I'm keen to queue for that long.
Judging by the last few years, though, it's always interesting, and there's always plenty of new stuff.

I went to vegfest on the Sunday. It felt like a large proportion of the attendees were groups of teenage girls, which was quite heartening. Sometimes it feels like it won't be too long before veganism is truly mainstream - but then I remember what percentage of the population is vegetarian and /o
This also popped up on my radar today. On one hand, if it means fewer people consuming meat then that's great - on the other, it's slightly unsettling that the key to doing so is mimicking animal blood and tissue. I feel we should be trying to change people's perceptions of what's ethically acceptable - this seems like it's condoning/'normalising' the consumption of meat.

I'm glad you've brought this up @Marron, I tried to get my hands on the Beyond Meat burger while I was in the US but I don't think it's gone east coast yet... in my mind, if you can get a proportion of meat eaters to cut down or stop eating meat because of products like this, then it's a good thing! I know a fair few carnivores and all I hear is "vegan food is boring" so opening up their minds to this could be the deciding factor. Another thing that's been in the news is that Tyson Foods (hmmm, chicken... http://www.tyson.com/products) have bought a 5% stake in Beyond Meat as they think products like this are the future. I just hope they burgers find their way over here at some point so we can see what all the fuss is about.

Read this yesterday @Oliver Schick, I'm surprised there weren't more derogatory comments to be honest... did you see the backlash on Sainsbury's new dairy free cheese... it's like Sainsbury's are killing puppies the way some people comment.

Some people are terrified of change. Or unaware / uneducated of the broken system

Exactly... I wouldn't mind if we were taking over the planet, but we don't affect their daily lives whatsoever... well one of my plans is global domination, but they don't know that
Just saw that there's a new shoe shop in Hackney Road:
