My Lynskey is like that. It scares me.

If you fit a new cable you've got to test it. Takes a second to figure out if the mech will roll the chain over the the largest sprocket or take the cage in to the spokes.
Possible that the mech was never limited properly and just relied on the lack of cable tension to prevent it from killing itself. Then a new cable goes in, a bit tighter and crunch it's all gone wrong.

Ok, not a great start to the day but beer has made me feel better now.
I spoke to the mechanic and he has offered to true the wheel and install another rear mech for free if I provide the parts... I'm happy with that, although perhaps it is not anything to do with him... Having studied the pieces of mech, jockey wheels and spokes it seems like the chain may have picked something up which cracked the outer cage and broke the teeth off the lower jockey wheel and then because of the force the whole cage pinged off the body of the mech... Maybe?
Anyway, the good news is the rear mech hanger looks straight and no one was hurt...
Next question is can I use the cage from a rival rear mech as a replacement or is it better to just swap the whole thing? Or should I use this as an excuse to try ultegra 6800...

The cage from a rival (or force or apex) of the 10 speed mechs will swap in. However, looking at the third pic on the last page it looks like the screw in the plastic body that holds the cage in place is still in the body, so I wonder if there has been damage inside the body when the cage was pulled out? Also, unless you've got a scrap rival mech to borrow parts off it may be cheaper just to buy a new complete mech as SRAM spares are few and far between and expensive.

Back on the road with a silver rival mech... The red mech is a write-off as the bolt that holds the cage on was ripped out of it, I now have two incomplete groups - argh!

While I'm here, has anyone got a -10 or -17 110mm Ti stem they want to swap/sell?

I have a force rear mech I'd sell if you're interested?

10 speed, I think it's the same as this, let me double check tonight

Hanger looks fine when I saw it after the accident. The shop set up the stop bolt wrong - allowing the mech to travel in to the wheel on the highest gear. Shame. They should sort everything out for you including fitting a new SRAM red mech and true wheel etc. They are nice guys in that shop so would be a shame to 'hang them out' - give them a chance to sort it out.

The King is dead! Long live the King!
So sold Lynsey, paid some bills, did some home improvements and managed to hide enough change down the back of the sofa to land this... Will chuck the parts bin at it to get it on the road for now and see how we get on!

Is enigma better than lynskey in ti world?
-
• #142
I'd say Lynskey > Enigma generally but depends which models you compare - the 'stack of coins' welding of the tubes is finer on a Lynskey. Lower end Enigmas are made in a factory in China - all Lynskeys are made in their factory...
A Moots tops pretty much everything in Ti world

Hi all,
Just remembered that I've got a 25mm USE titanium seatpost in the shed and was wondering if, provided I buy the correct shim to bring it up to 27.2mm, there is any danger of damage to the frame by doing this... my OCD for it all to be 'correct' is making me question the logic...
The shim will likely be a USE aluminium one from SJS with a top lip to stop the shim falling into the frame - I'll clean out the seatube and greese the shim and post - any potential issue with this seizing?
Many thanks in advance,
Matt -

Fucking amazing, needs better pics. Is this your only bike atm? Whats the saddle bag? Where are you going? PDW not compatible?
Well yes, but possibly the derailleur just SRAMED when it went suddenly into the spokes. What could the mechanic have done to cause this?
