John Lewis sucks sometimes, tell me it's not their Oxford St store? I wanted to returned a brand new tablet a while back, only opened it to test and didn't want it, so returned it the next day or day after, they refused to take it back as it's been used, I had to kick up a fuss and refused to leave until their department head came out from hiding to speak to me and take tbe damn thing back. They said once an item has been opened, even though it is still in its original package, it can't be returned. Bullshit.

It's all back again. Siri was intimidated by my profusion of swearing.
Intermittent faults are the best though, aren't they? -

Better late than never :)

It was a store in York I tried to return it to, originally purchased from a john lewis in Cambridge. It has made me think twice about purchasing electronics from there in the future if they can just claim 'wear and tear' on the item to invalidate the 2 year warranty.

I have an apple watch 2 itch... do I scratch it or will it go away?
-
• #9808
scratch it! they're kind of pointless, but their utility isn't fully apparent until you actually start using it. Imo the series 2 is overkill unless you really want to swim with the thing, series 1 is the one to go for.

what about the OS? battery life etc?

Always buy online if you want to return. I almost fell foul to this with Oxford Street JL and a MacBook - didn't check online, new ones launched the week after I bought so returned it thinking I had 'X' period. Distance Selling regs allow you to open, test and return within 14 days.

It has both of those things, yes.
Even on my first gen hardware, watchOS 3 is really good. A massive improvement over what came before. Battery life is acceptable - admittedly it's charge nightly, but that doesn't bother me, just vocal idiots in internet comment sections. The battery life takes a bit a hit recording 5hr+ workouts but pop it on to charge for 30 mins or so when you get in from a ride and it'll last the rest of the day. For general use (1hr commute in, 1hr commute out, normal working day) the battery normal has about 20% left when I get to bed.
I imagine the new Series 1 would show improvements on both of those counts over my hardware, and mine is more than adequate as-is.
If you do get one, it's good to think about what notifications you want where as it's easy to be overloaded. I only have texts, calls and dark sky imminent rain notifications tapping me on the wrist. Emails appear at half hour intervals (so I can see if I miss anything as it comes in) but don't tap. Everything else lives on the phone (but I have a pretty minimal approach to notifications there too).
It has become totally ingrained in my life as a contactless payment device. I might look like a future-dork, but I enjoy the convenience. ymmv, obvs.

Ask to spaek to the store manager? They way I see it is that if the whole charger is in good condition, like the cable itself hasnt turned grey / yellow, you know with loads of dirt marks and the actual charger is relatively free of scratch then it's not wear and tear, is it? Wear and tear is a subjective view at times, but if your charger has been sat at a desk the whole time then it should be very clear that it's just the end of that's split... I dont know, good luck, but JL sucks on other levels, they wouldn't price match a lot of the time, especially if matching a local store, because the way they verify aka to make sure you are not lying is by calling the shop you want to price match and tell the shop they are JL and doing a price match, even some of their employees said that sometimes their competitors give them some random high price to shut them up. I would if I ran a shop and JL called me every day to price match.

I know, but the temptation is that you live in London, fairly close to their store, why not go and take home what you want. Problem with them is that if you kick up a fuss, you get what you want... I think there are some staff who are trying to be as difficult as possible... They even tried to stop from returning a faulty item that I brought back the next day, asking if I wanted to get it fixed instead... erm... no how about you take this unit back and give me a brand new one that actually works?

New Macs expected to drop at the end of the month.
Sounds like the MBP will be getting USB-C, thunderbolt 3, Kaby Lake and amd Polaris GPUs.
It'll be nice if they keep the sd card reader but I won't cry if they drop it.
Sounds like it'll be a solid update. Hopefully they do a rose gold 15" 🤓

PLEASE.

Yesss rose gold MacBook Pro would be amazing, would match my phone.
I'm excited about the prospect of USB-c ports and what they are capabale of but having to buy an adapter to use other older USB stuff is going to be a bit of a pain. Especially with like external hard drives when you are out and about, having to carry around an adapter too. I suppose that's what you have to live with when getting the latest tech though.

USB-C to regular USB will be/are 2 a penny.

Going to miss MagSafe though...

Having using USB-C to charge a laptop that have USB-C on both side, I no longer miss MagSafe.
-
• #9820
Being clumsy, I will miss MagSafe.
-
• #9821
At least when you inevitably trip over the chord and break the port, you can just use one of the other ones.
Seems legit.

tbf I trip so hard it's not just the laptop I'm worried about. I've pulled the plug clean out of the wall on several occasions and that's only because I walked at the right angle. If I came at it wrong I foresee a 2 gang socket and some live wires hanging out of a crumbly, plastery mess.

MagSocket. You heard it here first.

Hopefully they do a fucking BLACK 15"

Is the desktop saying there's a number of MB/GB in it with Get Info? Incorrect permissions can sometimes make everything on the desktop be hidden. Probs not related to the iPhone thing, though.
