  • I'm loving all these Roberts Tandems!

  • Just rebuilt this after getting Roberts to fit a new seat tube; just got in before they shut...

  • I am now working another old Roberts frame - just sent it off for a respray. I'm not sure why it has Flanders decals on it. More pics when I've rebuilt it

  • Re s4ncobra 753 question. Very unlikely. 88 would be year 7 month and 53 number. Where Roberts added letters and numbers eg postcode, this was usually along side the frame number. Weigh it and see.

  • I've spruced up my old Roberts Audax for autumn commuting duties with some PDW mudguards, new bars and stem, and Gebla Rohbox conversion for the Rohloff hub gear.

2 weeks in and pretty happy with the Rohbox, easy to use and easy to fit, including the sram shifter adaption which is very well described in the Gebla documentation.

Overall the best drop bar solution for rohloff I've tried, although the ability to pull up quickly and spin from high to low in a single action is a bit compromised.

and to finish it off nicely:

  • Very nice Roberts/Rohloff setup.
I'd be interested to hear how well the SRAM levers work on the Gebla.
Was the green coloured grease coincidental or are you colour matching grease/frame/bartape :-)

  • Ooooofffff, amazing setup.

  • To date the levers work well, with paddle travel of around 30-40mm enabling the shift, so a bit more than might be expected with a derailleur? I think that can be easily altering by changing the spring tension, but I'm happy enough with it for now.

Changing up, after a down change sometimes needs a slight "pre-paddle" followed by a full paddle movement. I suspect this could also be fixed with a tinker on the adjusters or by shortening the cable length a bit. Its still a leisurely way of gear changing and I don't need to rush.

The green silicon grease is supplied with the Gebla kit, but its always a good idea to colour match lubricants to your bike...

BTW, The toothed cog is the wrong way around in that pic, the shell faces outwards and is held in place by an alloy bung so it doesn't fall off when the Rohbox is removed- the bung not shown here though:

  • @Lucerne, cheers from your description it sounds like it's a go'er the Sram/Gebla setup. At some point I'll move my Rohloff from MTB to fat tyred road frame and dont want to run the regular R twist shifter on that setup so need some drop bar variant and dont want GB/Co-Motion style so this looks ideal. Funnily enough my new road frame is metallic green so maybe I hope Gebla keep the green grease!!!
    good luck

  • This is probably the best place to ask: soon I will have a new road bike and I am 90% sure that I will put my Roberts up for sale.

The question is: how much is it worth?

Built for me in 2013; reynolds 853, 10sp Ultegra, Thomson finishing kit, CK headset, Look Pedals etc etc

Its a 57.5 ctc top tube and a 59.5 ctt seat tube (Roberts measure the seat tube from the centre of the BB to the very tip of the lug on the seat tube cluster). I'm 6ft2 with very long legs but, as you can see, I run a lot of seat post.

Won't include the Garmin, bottle cages or seat roll. Will come with original steel fork but would be willing to discuss price on the Wound Up which was bought new this year from the USA.

  • Isn't this part of your twin? Don't sell it man.

  • Yeah, I have a matching track frame as well. Actually, the entire build is matching.

  • Hurts to read this

  • you HAVE to keep the pair!

Maybe turn this into a light summer bike or something?

  • Agree. You should def keep both together.

I just picked up this frame at the weekend. Hopefully get it built up by the end of the month. Once I get the parts together. All black errything.

  • Can anyone tell me anything about this bike please?
It is my uncles bike and he has just been taken into care with Dementia. He has ridden all over the world and only stopped recently when he became ill. I suspect that he would have had this made when he became too old to climb on to his old Peugeot.
    The frame number is 010718.

  • Don't sell it unless you really have to or don't like it. Can't replace something like that!

  • Nice!
I hope the Bob Jackson sticker is over the lacquer!

  • Fortunately yes, it just peels off. But they were very good. Helpful, friendly, gave good advice, so I'm well happy

  • Hi I bought this a while ago but now was thinking of selling it, but as I am struggling to find a serial no on it, was wondering if it is original. Thanks
