This is the geo
I'm riding a 60cm supersix at the moment with 110mm stem and that is fine. I think it'll be fine. The reach on the SS is 40.2 and the reach on the TCR bike will be just be a bit shorter than that.

It looks like Chris has a good lead in the TransAfrika - the tracking site isn't very good but he seems to be 200km up on the next guy around the half-way point.

Bombtrack video on the Tuscany trail, looks good though fancy that Nice-Torino route more for an italian escapde

That video is so over hyped. Tuscany trail looks like a great route, but SO many riders at the main event. No thanks. #misanthrope

Just watched that. Would like to ride that one day.

Love to. Just need someone to pick up the slack in terms of £££ when I quit my job...

Damn, that would be interesting. As it passes so close to home, as I live in southern Finland.
Shame that Tcr will probably be at the same time and would need more time of work to do both anyway. And in a race like those it's part of it to see new places, not the roads I ride all the time... The southern parts and the finish would be interesting and there is nice roads in between too.Even if it is in the warmest time of the year, it can get cold up north.
Doesn't really say yet if it's a race or more randonneur style ride like the Japanese odyssey, noncompetitive.
Seems like it's a set route, as you could ride straighter. And I'd say also flatter on the west coast of Finland, but that doesn't really matter as it's flat anyway.

Thinking about SPOT tracker.
Should I get the simple one TCR use or the funkier orange one with buttons?
Best place to buy them?
-
• #787
Got mine through Amazon, then registered it through spot. I have the orange one as it lets me tell gf I'm safe when I am in the middle of nowhere and sofar it's been useful to keep her nervous mind at rest.

My missus has probably spent enough time with me now to be desensitized to me doing dumb shit to myself.
Is that the primary addition of the gen3? The ability to send out predefined messages to a
victimloved one? -
• #789
Think so- has an SOS button too. Personally think its overkill.
-
• #790
if getting one, i'd get a orange one. Not much extra in cost for the functions.
Plus then if you decide to go to middle of no where (no phone signal) you have those function.Could then rent it out too.

Isnt it heavier? ;)
-
• #792
It's bigger and heavier which is why I'm tempted by the basic one. But I wonder if the SMS thing would be useful for testing it or whatever.

Its little green light heart beat becomes your friend.

• #794
Mine was covered in mud hanging off the saddle bag so I never saw it.
-
• #795
Guess its down to attitude to risk- on TABR you will mostly be out of mobile coverage. Some stretches, the climb up to Lolo Pass particularly there wont be a landline for 70 miles. So even if you do need to use the SOS button its unlikely to provide help in a hurry in any case.

No internet?! How will I tweet about my blisters?! The people want to know!!!

• #797
Dwarf porn is generally only accessible in towns - no password needed for libraries.
-
• #798
I'm not sure I'll be able to last the 100mi between towns. Perhaps I should invest in some kind of satellite internet phone?

Only one section where its 100 miles, only states that I recall which have really big stretches between civilisation are Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Kansas.
Embrace the non connectivity! -
• #800
I embraced it for half of Europe, thanks to Three's shitty fucking roaming failure.
Actually, good question, what's a good SIM to use? Did you get a USA one? I guess my O2 roaming charges will be extortionate so I should find a USA SIM.
Indeed. Cold at night. I also had my PhD down on underneath, my merino had and buff too.
I don't like the cold.
