Thanks both. From what I gather, fitting the replacement hoods involves a full brake re-installation?

Not at all
The old ones just get pulled off. Slide the new ones on using alocohol gel- like the handcleaner stuff (just don't use one that also includes a moisturiser).

Nah, I was worried this would be the case but it turns out my little brother is stronger than me and was able to pull the new one over the brake lever and on (without stretching it!). I cut the old one off, couldn't manage to get it off over the front but didn't intend to use it again...

For what it's worth I got baggy hood model which got worse after the 2nd bleed (and complained about it on disc brake thread), emailed mantel and they were very helpful, asked for a pic and then sent me out warranty replacement hoods that have been fine so far.
