  • Quick question... thinking of upgrading to the SRAM CX1 1x11 crankset, do I need to use their new rear mech as well with the clutch or can i get away with my Sram mech I'm using at the mo?

  • Buy the one @Dick is selling.

  • If you are asking whether the xsync chainring is enough to keep your chain on the general consensus seems to be yes.

  • I'm using a Rival CX1 crankset with X-Sync chainring and an Ultegra rear mech, no dropped chain yet (but it hasn't got really muddy so far this season).

  • The cx1 rear mech seems very robust but does slow down wheel changes somewhat.

  • I thought I might be able to get away with it tbh, but you know what companies are like, it's all about upgrading everything! Anyone using a different chainring... blackspire, wolftooth? Thanks for replies by the way lads

  • I'm using Raceface with an X0 but that's ten speed.

Assume you have 11 speed SRAM road or something?

  • I am using a Superstar IO nw chainring with an 11speed 105 medium cage rear mech.

  • Using a SRAM Apex 11 speed... thought about a Wolftooth ring as they're supposed to be pretty bombproof.
One more thing, I've got a 46 tooth at the mo, should I go down to a 42 to just replace with another 46?

  • For racing cross or general gravel / training? Which cassette? For uk racing I use a 38t and 11/32

    But I'm weak

  • Also depends on how hilly the terrain you race and/or train in is.

I've been using a 42t single ring for the past two seasons, but most London league courses are not too hilly.

  • I'll be riding generally on the roads in London, but when I move home, it is a bit more hilly so maybe I should opt for something smaller... a 42 might be the way forward

  • 42t with 11-36 will get you up a wall if needed

  • Sounds perfect!

  • I'm thinking about getting a cross bike, ideally I'd like to get a Cannondale SuperX, but they're way above my budget, I'd prefer to get a carbon frame but really I'm open to anything, I've been looking at this -

I'd appreciate any other suggestions, and any criticisms of that bike? Eventually I'd like to get into cross racing.

  • Just wouldn't bother with a carbon 'cross bike TBH

Although it's getting harder to buy a nice aluminum OTP

SuperX is totes sexh tho - it even has an SI headtube should you want to turn it in to a Slate type thing.

  • Giant and Specialized have the TCX and Crux in your price range.

  • The CAADX Apex 1 is a pretty solid looking bike.

  • Seems most 2016 Caadx are now out of stock in 54, so I'm thinking Eastway Balun. An other options around for <£750? I made a terrible mistake with the 13 Innate Alpha, was heavier than the moon.

  • Don't expect the CAADX to be light.

  • Lighter, I hope. I thought 12.2kg would feel ok. It didn't. Maybe a heavier rider wouldn't notice, I'm 72kg.

  • Uff, that is a bit of a beast, were the tubes solid?

  • Low grade alu and lots of it, cro mo fork with even crapper steerer. Pity, I didn't mind Claris and Lyra brakes too much.

  • Caadx tiagra will come in just under 11kg.
