Made in Britain - Oak 631

  • So I bought the frame in March from @Fox as I wanted a winter bike with mudguard eyelets to keep my feet dry this year.

And then I put it in my basement and did nothing with it.....till now. I had most of the parts I needed from my old Masi that I stripped down and sold, all i needed to do was find the time to start to rebuild for the winter.

first in was the new BB..

I then put it back into the basement and ignored it till i got the mudguards....

Below is the list of parts reused:

    Oak 631 Frame & Fork
Royce Venus / Ambrosio Excellight - Black hubs with red dustcaps
    DA 7800 & Ultegra 6600
    Ritchey Bars, Stem & Seatpost
    Brooks Swift Ti
    Carradice Nelson + QR Rack

This is now how it looks finished, I need to re-tension the cables as they have now bedded in for a week and stretched a little.

  • Nice, how do the royce hubs roll?

Needs something like a Nitto Post and stem, something a little more retro to finish the look.

  • I debated buying this when it was for sale decided it wasn't for me as I wanted discs.
Lovely looking bike, hope it rides as well as it looks.

  • They are great, light and quick. I flip between these and some DA / Mavic Ceramic's that I have.

The DA's feel more solid but this think that because they are 36h and the Royce are 32h.

I also have Royce / TB14's on my Brooklyn and they feel bomb proof with 32c Ribmo's

  • TBH I need to re-build the rear caliper...I needed a long drop caliper that I just happened to have in the parts bin. Took it apart to change the mounting nuts around and have managed to bugger it up, I am guessing a liberal spray of WD40 will loosen things up, but need a closer look.

I am only just starting to get used to riding a rode bike again, for most of the year I have been riding my Brooklyn & Serotta (on the track) so its taken a while to readjust.

This morning was the first time I felt comfortable, I think though that's just muscle memory, rather than anything else.

  • Thanks, I can never bloody work that out.
