  • I did forget to mention that I have lower back issues, physio hasn't really worked in the past but being totally honest I've never really been persistent with the exercises given. As the weather is improving I, like most of us, am planning to do some longer rides so I guess it's back to stretching for me, I think it's more about getting in to a habit rather than continuing with the 'I'll do them later/after work/before bed/tomorrow' mantra I have been living to.

  • I work on my flexibility. Christ how I work.

Planking is good. I do a shitload of exercises for my core and flexibility - mainly for running. I've stopped yoga since Xmas for a number of reasons but my DD was OK, probably not as sharp an angle as that lady though.

  • Fair .. you might be first of its kind then

Generally it goes LFGSS > HHSB > T rex realisation > actually finding you have decent flexibility IF you work on it > you work on it > you burn the NJS bike with tiny stem and risers etc.

  • Actually there's also this.

I think I have a pretty long saddle setback (94mm). I think it's because I have long femurs but not 100% sure.

Anyway that means that the bars have to be pulled backwards so accommodate for that, hence the need for a shorter TT, stem and bar reach or combination thereof.

  • I'd say I'm swaying more towards that route; I do often wonder whether, even after working on my flexibility, I would end up in the same predicament as @fizzy.bleach as I too have a short torso and long legs

  • 94mm!! Thats more than twice of my setback!

Always hard to find aesthetically pleasing bike for such requirements unless you go custom ..

Where did you have your fit?

  • Cadence in Crystal Palace.

I think partly the setback thing was to accomodate for an ITB issue. I'm not that tall but I have long legs.

  • Oh and seeing as I'm in a sharing mood, my bar reach and bar stack* are 441 and 716mm respectively.

    • BB centre to centre of bar clamp area
  • new project, pretty sure I win the all-time T-Rex frame award with this:

    Seat tube c-top 62cm
Top tube c-c 52.5cm (yes, no typo. 52.5cm)

Bought this on *bay for £79, which included a Shimano 600 headset and BB. Tubing is 531c.

  • Doesn't immediately look like an as wildly out of proportion frame as a 10cm difference in st and tt would suggest. Headtube looks large but not enormous

  • I agree. Wonder if wheels make a difference to the look.

  • Find out what seat tube angle is first.

Usually if it's very steep, it's realistically 54cm, or even 56cm.

  • From what I could see after some quick and dirty camera angle corrections in PS, it should be somewhere in the common range (I read around 75° for both).

Headtube is 19.5cm by the way.

I have another bike (yes, I am a notourious T-Rex collector, five in total), a track frame, which is 62cm c-t as well with a 56.5cm top tube, and it has a 21cm headttube:

  • Nice! If you spot any more big T-rex track frames, do let me know. The steeper the seat tube, the better!

  • Why the steeper the better? I mean yeah, steep angles look cool, but Ed (above) is right when he warns that a steep seattube will have the same effect as a longer TT.

By the way, if anyone cares, this is my current T-Rex list:

Bill Whitcomb pursuit track (1985, Columbus SLX): ST 63.5 c-t, TT 58 c-c
    Unknown British track (mid 80s, Reynolds 531): ST 62 c-t, TT 56.5 c-c
    Preuss road (late 80s, Columbus MAX): ST 61.5 c-t, TT 57 c-c
    Rob Telfer road (late 80s, Reynolds 531c): ST 58.5 c-t, TT 54 c-c
    Argos road (late 80s, Reynolds 531c) ST 62 c-t, TT 52.5 c-c

  • Long legs, short femurs. :)

  • Why the steeper the better?

Bit late to this, but this is actually more to being able to set the saddle forward in a bigger frames.

Big frames tend to have a slacker than average seat tube, this is fine however it limited saddle position to the point that you may have to flip the layback seatpost the wrong way round to achieved the idea saddle - bottom bracket distance (horizontal).

Most especially when you want to ride on Selle SMP saddle where they recommend you to set it at least 10-15mm forward compare to your old saddle.
