Indeed, I'm a horrid grinder of a rider, but I'll go with a period block.
I probably won't use half of this kit in the end, just trawled the parts bin, I had thought that I could combine a mixture of 50's and 70's kit on this, but given the way I bemoaned the modern/vintage mash up I had before, I think I'm better sticking to one era and doing it properly.
Which era that is, I don't know at the mo!
I've always rather liked Williams C34 chainsets, they're basic no nonsense kit which is perfectly adequate for everything except actual competition.
However this C34 doesn't have anything in common with the campag derailleurs shown above - it's from a different era having pre-war origins, whereas the Nuovo Records are probably dated 1970's (there should be a date stamp near the cable entry point).
The C34 will almost certainly not be smaller than 46/49 teeth (it may be larger), but I don't think the Campag will cope with a bottom sprocket over 26 teeth. So that gives a minimun gear just a tad under 48". In my youth I thought my 51"bottom touring gear was spectacularly low, but I wouldn't think that now. Is 48" going to be suitable for your purpose?
Incidentally, that spare ring would need to be drilled out to take the sleeved bolt on the double set which are a later type of fixing.
