Master pista is a great machine but probably neither a great choice as a communter nor as a crit bike.

How does this comment can be helpful?
Why should I get disease on BLB La Piovra when I was told to be very good quality? -

Why?

Well I don't have one myself (unfortunately) but unless it's in a tatty condition I'd be overly protective and wouldn't want to expose it to the risks associated with commuting and crit racing, after all it's a collectors item. But that might just be my personal stance, if you don't mind getting it scratched and dirty, you'll probably enjoy it. It'll be less stiff than the aluminium cinelli I figure tho. Tubing on all masters is columbus gilco. Some have tange decals but word has it that it was just a marketing stunt with the aim to conquer the japanese market.
ed. thought you meant the normal cinelli mash which is aluminium....

thanks buddy. Makes sense...
Ill go with the colnago instead of the mash but I
m still very interested on the La Piovra models.... -

1: you already decided deep down.. this is the one you'll try to get if you find one that matches the budget.
2: google gruppo spa. cinelli and columbus is the same company. tubing of the mash work is cromor i belive.
3&4: blbs are not well regarded. overpriced random steel track frames. look around here and you'll find lots of frames with better pedigree.
my own thoughts: fuck colnago. not because i have something against it, but because it is overpriced too (in its own league). the brand has many fans and they had a few nice ideas regarding framebuilding but that's all (sorry @saarf i don't mean to flame, just my 2p < he'll correct me soon enough, just watch :)
get some nice 'modern' steel eg. donohue.

Can you enlighten us further on your experience of riding different brands ?

not professionally, mind, but so far i've ridden:
-moser san cristobal
-raleigh scirocco
-mali ironman (hungarian)
-gürtler (track, bespoke, hungarian)
-privitera (track, bespoke, argentine)
-rih super profi (austrian)
-cannondale caad4
-pesenti fly (i think, no designation on frame)
-kona paddy wagon
-cannondale six13many different bikes designed for different purposes but i loved them all (if they fit/i could dial them in correctly). many of them not high end and still enjoyed all.
if colnagos were cheaper, i'd try them. but i doubt they are that much better as the price tag suggests (comparing them with competing products of their own category of course)
if the op is a pro or a collectionist (neither of which he seems to be but excuse me if i'm wrong) he might notice differences between, say, a colnago pista or a chesini pista (no fancy tubing, just a normal track frame with round tubes). the nago would still cost him more. why? well, history and brand rep. measurable? no.
he should get what he likes. if it's a nago and he can justify it, why not? i just think there are many more options that might leave him with money left to buy a set of atomic22 bolts and in my opinion that's a bit better than an engraved clover..

Your argument/opinion would here more validity if you'd ridden a Colnago and then could make the comparison in my opinion , the op states they have actually ridden a geared model before, which could arguably be why they have a preference for a Colnago pista
Regarding price, all depends on where you look, what your experience is, I'm building a super CX circa 84 that stands me in less than 200 euros
thanks for feeling the need to mention me regarding your opinion on the brand, had you not done so, I would have not taken any notice of what you had written

How about Colossi, orlowski ??? and I was offered a Olmo Pista ( like colnago, also a beauty) is it same quality as colnago master pista, in case I choose go to this vintage classic path? :)
The usage will be in street...I also bumped that thin classic frames tend to bend and damage as they are thinner? is this even true?

There are some pretty light Bob Jacksons knocking about. Plenty of them had track dropouts.
Vitus 979 track if you wanted to deviate into alloy.

Just get something from classifieds and be done with it.

I
m going for the colnago or an olmo pista NOS that I
ve found
Hi,
I`m planning to build a very naughty fixed/track/pista bike with steel frame. The idea is to have the comfort of a steel framed bike for daily commute to work but very light weight so I can also use on weekend training sessions and some local crits as well.
The options I`m considering are below:
m a colnago fan and used to have one in the past with gears and ride so smooth that I
m considering. Not to mention beautiful work finish.m looking for, however I don
t consider to be the most beautiful frame as it is too multi purpose and spacings for tires and between tires is huge! Also, I don`t have any specifics on which Columbus tubing is being used as Cinelli is not clear and states to be a collaboration between both brands...With all the above said, would like to hear opinions from any person who already had any of the above or know someone who did to give me impressions.
Also, any link with articles, photos informations around any of the models above, please share as well.
I`m happy to receive other suggestions as well. :)
I
ll be in UK entire December and I
m planning to purchase my frame once I`m there. Looking for a 55 or 56cm steel frame with characteristics above.Cheers,
