Worst case for me would be suck up with JL for another year then if Patch stays well and healthy, switch to petplan next year, unless JL wants to charge me for more money for £3000 cover than petplan would for £7500 cover. I need to balance the possibility, however small, that Patch's tumour mighr return and the 2 years exclusion petplan has proposed...

Vet said the marker for this type of tumour spreading is 8+ and Patch's report shows less than 1, so chances are very very slim, but like any medical condition, you can never be sure.

  • I will keep fingers and paws crossed. Sam had a tumour on his paw and they cut it out along with one toe. You wouldn't notice it now unless you were counting toes. He is now 4 years cancer free. Thank you pet plan.

  • if you don't mind me asking, what is the policy you have? And again tell me to do one if I am asking to much, but since Sam is a bit older than Patch, I'd apperciate some advice - is £3000 a year actually enough? She has the lifetime type of policy so it's £3000 for whatever per a year... I don't mind paying for a one off broken leg or whatever, it's the long term will most certain dry your bank account out fast kind of illness I am worried about...

  • And for the record, the little furball is feeling sorry for herself tonight after being molested by the vet, including sticking a stick up her bum hole, this morning... I want to laugh but I feel bad for wanting to...

  • Also, what type of tumour was it, do you know? Patch's had Mast cell tumour and it's very common on cats and dogs but lucky for the kitties they don't tend to spread whereas for dogs, it would usually be a lot more serious...

  • Sam is 11 so he is on a pet plan old policy which covers up to 4000 a year. When he had his tumour that year he used up 3996 of insurance. Phew.
I can't remember what sort of tumour it was, but it was on the side of his paw and it looked at first that he had caught his claw on something. Thankfully we caught it early because having the chat with the surgeon about him potentially amputating his front leg was not fun. If that was going to happen I would have said goodbye because he is such an outdoors cat. It's a bloody miracle he is still here 4 years on. I remember I was looking at taking a kitten at the time just in case. But Sam is still here, clingy soppy sausage that he is, currently asleep next to me, snoring away.

  • He looks so happy and confortable... :-D

  • Thank you. I like to think he is.

  • Is it normal to consider getting your pet put down just because it's having a leg amputated? I was on holiday recently where there were 2 lovely border collies, one who'd had one leg amputated and he was having a great time still... I guess his owners could have had him put down as border collies are pretty active dogs, but it would have been such a shame to give up on a sweet dog and get a 4 legged replacement.

  • it depends on the animal and the circumstances. Not to mention cost.

  • Almost the entire front leg on a 7 year old outdoor cat. Thankfully it was only a discussion I had with the surgeon and a decision I never had to make.

  • ^ not impressed!

  • John Lewis you fucking sucks.

DO NOT TAKE OUT A POLICY WITH THEM UNLESS YOU CAN AFFORD TO TAKE OUT THE HIGHEST ONE YOU THINK YOUR CATS WILL EVER NEED WHEN THEY REACH THEIR OLD AGE.

And my renewal price is almost a double.

  • Okay, minor emergency.
OH was sat with the cat earlier, he's sneezed a few times last few days, this time a goddamn thin white WORM was hanging out of his nose.
She wants to nuke the site from orbit, anyone had this, HALP PLS

  • A worm!? A nose worm? A worm?

  • A freakin NOSE WORM!

  • She kicked the poor bugger out, gonna try find him now.

  • Probably just a worm that was nommed and managed to escape, a la spider legs poking out of mouth etc.

  • Vet reckons that ^ or roundworm, may have been vommed / nommed, anyway, big dose of drontal and keep an eye on him. Also he's put on 700g to reach 6.7kg, even though we've been feeding him for a 5kg cat, so I suspect he's either being fed elsewhere or scavenging chicken wings and worse from the Brixtahn streets.

  • Well that sounds all fine, which is good. Unfortunately they just eat whatever the hell they like when out and about...

    Bonus pic.

  • What's the best flea treatment people have been using? For cats, not for people.

  • think he/she needs a 135mm saddle?
