Bargain at 450euro - Parts worth that alone once given a good clean
-
• #55578
Would £240 (what he'd take) for this be bargain territory?

It looks awesome and it's local, but I fear it's too big for me.

There's loads of seatpost and that stem looks pretty long. Go visit and see what the standover is, everything else can be adjusted.

It's the headtube that I'm concerned about. It looks like a 58/60 and I really need a 56 or 54 ideally if I want to be able to throw it around. He's being a bit crap about responding and I don't want to pester him. I also don't really have the money...

Not sure the frame is a real Tommasini, no pantos
-
• #55583
You should Defoe buy at that price
-
• #55584
I don't think it's a Tommasini from the photographs either.
Seat stays have no panto T and the head tube lugs also have no panto T. -

Lovely Olmo Pista in size 58. Apparently a former bike of the bulgarian national team. It even has olmo toeclips! Slightly too big for me...

There's some scepticism about this frame over on the SBDU Facebook group. Things aren't necessarily where they might be expected to be, etc etc.
-
• #55597
It was for sale on this forum for ages.
It's gained a fork, and new colour scheme to cover up the dents since. -

£140 -> £1600

I don't get why people would pay that kind of money for a frame which doesn't even have the original paint job anymore.
They also talk about it on RB http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=355630Do prices soar in the time before the big eroicas?
Frame rear spacing is suspect,
dropout hanger is bent on one side,
original rear hub worked but needed tlc,
brakes have zero purchase and were more like a slow fart than a stop,
Cotterpin bb snapped axle whilst riding, new shimano bb's plastic size was botched when I tried to install
Cabling was bad condition and crunchy
Extra long seatpost is sketchy
If I spend dollar on new wheels, drivetrain, pedals, post, brakes, and so on, it would probably still be bad because of the rear triangle being such soft metal. It's an old cheapo imported Hungarian folder, so metal is folded over not nice welded tubing.
