Which just seems so arse about face - surely you want consistent, reliable braking in the mud?

Too much power from discs in the mud perhaps?

Sven Nys was actually swapping between bikes with discs and cantilevers in the same race last year. It's also possible manufacturers have stopped producing the top end frames with cantilever mounts.
