Think about:
Lower your relative intensity and don't be afraid to walk if it helps.
Suncream, hat.
Shady routes, e.g trails under tree canopy.
Time of day - run early or late.
How well hydrated are you before run, during and after.
I've had a bit of time to read up on this and I think your're spot on.
I'm going to drink some water and go out and have another crack. Even if it takes 11 minute miles or I have to walk I'm getting today ticked off.

Also for future, run near water if possible (apparently has a cooling effect).
