  • How long is the stem on the Willier? If you buy a longer frame Kinesis, you don't want to have to run an 80mm stem or something to make up for the extra length TT.

  • A typical 54cm road bike have a stack of 545 and reach of 385.

    A 56cm have a stack of 565 and reach of 395.

Should give you an idea of what to look for.

  • Why not? Not like 80mm gonna cause issues, it still ride like a bike.

  • Anyone tried the GF TI disc?

  • A penny farthing still rides like a bike. This is about getting good fit + good handling. ~100mm stems are where it's at. Accept no substitutes.

  • The Wilier stem is 100mm.
However, changing stem length would be to compensate for the reach, not necessarily top tube length, surely?

  • Aren't you comparing Willier reach with Kinesis reach? Isn't that what this whole discussion was about? Just make sure it's not stupidly out of range so you need a silly stem.

  • Yes, but the point that I'm making is that two bikes with different top tube lengths can have the same reach.

  • I see, I wrote TT. I meant reach. You knew what I was talking about though so WWIII averted.

  • You're turning into my wife @hippy - expecting me to re-interpret what you say ;)

  • Like your wife, I'll give you a clip 'round the 'ead for being an internet bike fitting smartarse.

I think you'd be better off on a 57cm 4S anyway, specifically the one hanging up in my flat...

  • Looks to me like the 55.5cm would fit you better out of those two. Slightly longer headtube, but you've got a few spacers under the stem anyway, and slightly longer top tube (but as the wilier has a steeper seat tube the reach'll likely work out about the same).

I am not an expert though!

  • Anyone got/still running a Decade Virtue ? Only just finished mine and I feel i've been left behind in the rapture.

  • Green and gold. Great choice. I'm sure we'll be awesome again in Tokyo. :P

  • lol Was going to do yellow, but that would probably been a little John Deere ;-)

  • You'll still get good handling with the 80mm stem, it only feel different but still handle the same.

  • Yes but it's sub-optimal. Next.

  • Kinesis 4S Disc has an "integrated FSA type headset"

Anyone know which model it is, specifically, and if there's something else, preferably better, I can replace it with?

  • Have a look here -may give you some idea

    http://www.fullspeedahead.com/product-category/road/?filtering=1&filter_component_type=677

Why would you want to replace it anyway ? What's wrong with it ? If it's worn, a simple change of bearings would suffice ?

I can't think of anything better, unless you are feeling flush and fancy a mix-n-match Hope one. Not to say those are better, just more expensive.

  • The old bung kept loosening off during TCR so I want to kill it in the face now I have a new bung. It's not strictly necessary more a 'just in case' the bearings suffered.

  • I have exactly the same problem with my ATR fork. The bung is crappy.

  • I tightened the headset again this morning. I'll see how it goes.

This is with the longer, knurled bung I replaced the stock one with.

  • Which replacement are you using? I bought a Hope one and it's slightly too wide for the steerer.

  • Bung? Mentioned it somewhere else on here.... hang on...

It was the long (52mm) ITM one, here:

    Oh hai!

You need to get your S.H.I.S straight! More info here.

Merlin expand on Kinesis' description: "Tapered headtube – 1” 1/8 top race, tapered to 1” ½ bottom 36x45 integrated FSA type."

I know, "ain't nobody got time for that" so I've done the heavy lifting for you: IS41/IS52 40 (45°).

Cane Creek 40 series is the Tstr fan-boi headset of choice: best function/price balance. (fifth row down, second or third column from the right).

    You're le welcome!

PS Usual caveats apply. [I have no idea what I'm doing meme]
