• Vine was aggressive when he stopped dead like that. She was provoked.

That's not an unambiguous aggressive act, and her behaviour is predicated entirely on his actions prior to his stopping. What he could have done is irrelevant, what he did do was fairly neutral.

I doubt any of it would have happened.

Irrelevant, it did happen and criticism of her is valid.

  • Just playing devil's advocate. If a driver had beeped a driver in front who'd then essentially slammed the brakes on in front of them (the classic 'brake check' dick move), I'd say that'd be considered to be escalating the situation. How is what Vine did different?

  • It's different because vines on a bike

  • vines on a bike

    Worst. Sequel. Ever.

  • And also Vine didn't slam on the brakes.

Coming to a controlled stop and keeping control of the situation before the road opens up can be preferable when you have someone behaving unpredictably. I've been in a similar situation where I have pulled to the left only to find that the idiot behind is attempting to undertake. I've also been seriously injured by a tailgating motorist as I've pulled left out of their way, I wish that had happened at a slower speed.

  • Ah sucks. You'd think it's pretty clear cut and easy with footage and a plate.

  • Some chap this morning in a massive Merc saloon heading down the Kings Road near Lots road. First clocked him using the "I'm on the speaker phone but holding the phone to my chin" thing which some drivers seem to think equals "hands free". As he overtakes I notice he's covered up half of his number plate with a black bin bag. Must have been on purpose as it was tucked into the top of the plate and then under the boot. He then proceeded to run the most blatant red light I've pretty much ever seen. It was like he was operating under his own kind of diplomatic immunity. knob.

  • Agreed. But apparently it's all his fault because he's successful and well off, whereas rabid batshit crazy woman owns a car. Go figure...

  • He's motor-dependent.

  • Some guy coming down Brixton hill this morning in a little black hatchback.

I had clocked a bus stopping up ahead so decided to move out, checked my right shoulder, saw hatchback, indicated, checked again, saw him holding his speed, began to move out. At this point, as I'm not too far from the back of the bus, hatchback man decides it would be a good idea to speed up, closing the gap and almost forcing me into the back of the bus.

    Cunt.

Still, got some sympathy from the fellow cyclist following me. "Not much you can do about that!". Indeed...

  • "Not much you can do about that!"

    au contraire

  • Heh. Hadn't considered that...

  • What's the point of RoadSafe if...

    Roadsafe London

Roadsafe London is an information and Intelligence gathering tool. It is part of the Road Crime Intelligence Unit and staffed by experienced traffic officers. You can report your concerns using a simple to use form available at the RoadsafeLondon website listed in related links.

  • if abusive, racist or threatening language has been used

So... driver behaves in a manner that endangers life and limb, you call them a dangerous cunt, case gets thrown out because you used nasty words?

  • I assume it means that if the driver gets sweary its not a traffic offence but something else public order related?

  • I submitted a video to roadsafe where I called a lorry driver a cunt twice. I did warn them in the written bit. Hope they'll still go after the twat. Also, he looked like Phil from Time Team.

  • Also, he looked like Phil from Time Team.

That is a crime outside of the West Country.

  • Seemed to be loads of super aggressive driving today. For the first few Ks of weekend ride this morning had several close passes and a massive bus trying to overtake between me and a traffic island when there was a huge long straight bit of road just after.

Then, riding down a narrow country road popular with cyclists in Surrey I see a rider picking himself up off the road with his bike half in the hedge and a black Audi accelerating away from the scene at speed. Rider said he was deliberately driven at. Gave my details and the rider managed to get a photo of the car with reg number.

  • Mini driving cunt tailgating then punish passing me on the inside using the bus stop. Getting more frequent here

  • Don;t know if this is the most relevant place to post, but I found this quite interesting ... "A Fighter Pilot’s Guide to Surviving on the Roads"

    http://www.slobc.org/safety/documents/road-survival-guide.pdf

  • “Everyone’s been slating me online and there’s been a real racist element too.

"He made me look impatient but he was riding on the pavement and came out on to the road in front of me, with no hand signals. He was dangerous. He pulled out in front of me, making me have to make an emergency stop. Then he had the arrogance and cheek to block me in the middle of the road, that’s what set me off.”

Vine was clearly the real menace here.

  • riding on the pavement and came out on to the road in front of me, with no hand signals

Someone's been paying attention to criminal trials.

I can only assume Vine has more video showing exactly what happened in the moments before.

  • Very interesting and it certainly makes sense. I wish there was a way to educate other road users to these facts, as cyclists we have such an interest in this because it's life and death....

  • No mention of road tax though... ;)
