  • It's aluminium. Really wouldn't go ham at it with a piece of wood.

    This.

And the Precursa aren't exactly a tough cookie to begin with.

  • +1
    Not specific to 144

  • They appear to be complying with Consumer Act 2015 (the legislation in this area) in part. As an alternative, ask them to do a 'repair' (also available) and crimp so that if they damage they are liable. Takes away the heat.

  • yup, keeping the wheelbase tight

This is my PC. The stays are not that curvy

For some reason I don't know the pic appears too small, but when taken was bigger :/

  • Omniums are GXP, right? Surely removing the NDS BB spacer will push the crank over to the right and give you more chainstay clearance?

  • From what I understood the spacers are only for wide axles or smaller shells, and it's not advised to use them.

    Here's without spacers.

  • That's with no spacers on the non drive side too? The spacing isn't determined by the drive side cup

  • No spacers there.

  • With a spacer, the nds arm won't bolt all the way down the splines since the bb is now wider than the axle. without spacers, the ds should still sit flush to the bb. That's what I would think anyway

  • On my road cranks there's a 2 or 3 mm gap on the drive side with the NDS cinched down, thought it would have been the same

  • That's not right. Should be no spacers at all, and cups flush to frame with a solid 4mm between stay and spider. I'm running a 50t ring with plenty of space for bigger.
Try different crank if you have access to or send back to Dolan.

@TomvanHalen between the BB and spider? If so, that's normal. If I remember on another thread, Tester might have said that the DS is machined to stop at a certain point as not to compress the bearings, leaving a little space between spider and bb.

  • Well exactement, hence my confusion at the presence of a NDS spacer in the original picture

  • Pic from Dolan with Sugino cranks. But is this 130 and not 144 BCD? Looks smaller.

  • They're PCD 130mm Sugino RD2 cranks, probably on a CBB-103 103mm BB.
RD2s are repurposed road cranks. Notice the little tabs for the inner chainring.

  • They sell Sugino 75 - Ask them to fit some of those :)

  • They can't really compare an external BB crank with a square taper one where you can run a wider bb to solve the problem. Ask for something with 144BCD also. Its supposed to be a budget track frame, it should take track cranks

  • New paintjob and decals look spot on, shame about the crank issue, omniums being one of the most used (and not even close to narrowest) choice to track and street

  • They claim they've fitted a 75 without problems. I'll try to borrow a set this weekend and try myself.

  • Do you know what other cheap Alu cheap track bike that doesn't have that problem?

    Fuji Track Comp.

    Poor show Dolan, poor show.

  • It'll be tight! It's tight enough on my old, 'narrow stays & tyres' PC with a BB spindle 2mm longer than standard. Gap to stay is currently approx. 2mm (see post #3065, previous page), so must have been 1mm with previous (SG75) BB.
There's an indentation/scuff to my powder coat in the location where the spider used to rub the chainstay under load when using the old BB. Scuff was flatted off/polished out a bit before I fitted the new BB but you can still see the indentation.

  • Dolan website now contains a disclaimer:

    What a fuck up.

  • Would S300 fit the new Pre Cursa, or would it be the same due to the GXP BB?

  • S300 is 130bcd (I think) and theoretically have slimmer chainring mounts so would have more chance at working than Omnium.

Dolan need a more comprehensive warning though - They should really test all of the popular chainsets. They also sell DD75 - What's the betting they don't work either?

  • I had never considered that Fuji as an option. This is a bit off-topic, but I'd be interested what other 'Pre Cursa alternatives' people would recommend at a decent price point. Aventon? Colossi Cheeko?

  • Colossi Cheeko
