  • Not everyone has room for a bigger fan.
If you're not out-sweating every towel you own you're doing it wrong.

  • Sweating IS your heat management system. It's when you stop sweating you might have issues.

  • In case you have a Computrainer with a blue flywheel...

Thanks to @dubtap for the heads up

  • Not been on a trainer since bike fit with @scherrit. Is that going to bend the rear stays (hopefully not). The quick release on the right hand side is tight with a bit of pressure. All okay yes?

  • I have one of these

(http://www.cyclesurgery.com/pws/UniqueProductKey.ice?ProductID=CBKO0006KK) if anyone wants it. Never been used but I haven't got a box or instructions. Looking for £220

  • Tacx Vortex Smart still the best value FE-C protocol trainer out there ?

Considering getting one for Trainer Road/Zwift

  • This entrance level trainer any good?

    https://www.evanscycles.com/minoura-b60-remote-trainer-EV136734

I had a nice Tacx one few years back, didn't like riding indoor but things have changed and wanna give this another go, but don't want to spend too much on another nice one in case I still don't like a turbo trainer...

  • I don't know anything about that particular turbo, but generally magnetic resistance trainers are not great and feel like trying to ride through treacle. Look for a fluid resistance trainer. Lots of suggestion in this thread if you search.

  • If you can stretch to a tacx vortex it's a decent trainer with power. Enables you to get more out of the session which makes the very shit activity of riding a bike indoors more worth it.

  • This^

I have a posh magnetic trainer and its orrible.

  • so much this. turbo with power enables you to do meaningful training and you can quantify the changes in performance.

  • My Bushido is fine as a magnetic trainer, it just doesn't cope with quick changes in resistance. You have to increase power over 10-20 seconds into an interval from say, 180w to 400w.

I'd like to know how to control it over Bluetooth but not sure this update is available yet. My FE-C experience hasn't been great so far.

  • Any good DD Trainers which don't include power? I have a power meter so spunking money on getting one included in a trainer seems a bit shit. Otherwise was looking at a Neo or Kickr.

  • You dont need to spend out on Integrated Power though.

Personally. I'd get a Nice simple, quiet, fluid trainer With a reliable resistance curve, and a trainerroad Subscription.

  • If I just bust out standard sets of intervals is there any reason for me to look at Trainerroad?

I had grand plans of setting up my Computrainer and new (old) computer to run that virtual reality thingie but I basically can't be arsed. It's enough of a chore finding a drip towel.

  • I went a long way with just a cheap magnetic turbo and some Sufferfest videos. Power is good and all but if you just want to kill your legs a few times a week you don't need one. Likewise no turbos feel as good as the road and they're all loud as fuck, so get one you like the sound of that doesn't cost too much.

  • Do you have a powermeter on the turbo bike?

If so. Not really. Its kinda Nice having it plot a curve in front of you. Especially if you're following a bit of a complex workout. But its not actually adding anything.

  • Is that a trick question? #doyouknowwhoiam

That's what I wanted to know - it will do fuck all for me. I might get Zoost or Zest or Zwift that's it working one day but really, my turbo sessions are unlikely to become 'fun'. Maybe if I do some slightly longer stuff in winter I'll join up to see what the fuss is about.

  • Longest workout on Trainerroad is six hours, so that'd be no good for you anyway.

  • Right so taking on board your advice and having done some research, I have narrow down to these two:

    1. Tacx Flow
This seems to be the watered down version of the Vortex, like a bit less powerful, which doesn't concern me and the VR software isn't as all singing all dancing, again, doesn't really bother me as I am not training for Tokyo... and it is £150 less...

    2. Cycleops Fluid 2
This looks to be the cheapest fluid trainer I could find, but doesn't come with anything, so would be an extra few quids on top. But again, does more than what I need and reviews suggest it's one of the quieter ones...

    Thoughts?

  • doesn't come with anything

What are you expecting it to come with, a Butler?

    I like my Cycleops JetFluid.

  • Oh just the front wheel block thing... Although a Butler that would serve me cold drinks would be a good idea.
