  • Can they please get round to the Garmin 1000 replacement? Long over due.

  • Nooooo! The 1000 is the only device they've ever made that actually works.

  • Anyone are having with the latest updates to their garmin 520? my Bluetooth has stopped working and doesn't want to sync with my iPhone anymore. But when I connect it garmin connect on my laptop it works perfectly fine to sync with strava and GC.

  • Had to do a "forget device" in the bluetooth settings on the iphone and pair the 520 again. Works fine after that.

  • I think this is common, but every time I sync my forerunner to my phone, it changes the units of measurement from KM to M, Kilos to Pounds etc.
Is there a way to stop this happening?

  • Go to connect.garmin.com and check what your user profile is set up to use.

Head icon -> Settings -> Display Settings -> Measurement Units

Then also check it's correct at:-

Devices -> Device -> Device Settings -> Units

  • Trying to upload the .gpx of this weekends audax onto my garmin and having problems.

I have a Forerunner 910xt, and so the only way to upload courses to the device is to send them via Garmin Express which in turn only connects to Garmin Connect. However when I try to upload the GPX files to GC (using manual import) it just gives me a message saying:

An error occurred with your upload. Please try again.

The .gpx files should be fine (I downloaded them from RWGPS and it works fine on bikehub etc.). Does anyone know of an alternate solution?

  • Excellent. Thanks for your help.

  • Garmin Connect fucks out on almost every file I try and upload. I used some third party website that stripped out fields and then uploaded that.

  • Never heard of sugru before, but now I want it on all the things.

  • Try running the gpx file thtough gpx vizualizer, http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/ use the output option of gpx file and try to load the resultant file.

I have had occasional errors with files from RWGPS.

  • After leaving my 800 in a drawer for a year I'm ready to have another play without the urge to chuck it in a canal. Haz OSM maps which just seem rubbish if bimbling around the Cotswolds but fine if following a course, what's the forum map of choice these days?

  • I much prefer Garmin maps for UK riding because I can just bash in a postcode and it will take me there (eventually).

Also had trouble in Greece/Turkey border where it wouldn't navigate to a town 5k away because OSM was being a dick. Garmin maps most likely would've worked.

  • Can't say I fully trust the Garmin/OSM for navigation, after both routing and online course chucked me on dirt paths and fields in Germany, but it was accurate enough using it as an actual map, with some kind of initiative on my part.

I'd love to have the Google routes on the Garmin. In general they have been good to follow.

    I'm using a 1000, no idea what's best for the 800 though.

  • Do I need to buy/download Garmin maps from somewhere like Amazon? Eg. Mapsource city navigator?

I remember comparing my 800 to a friends 510 and hers had a really nice clear map, more like a car sat nav...

  • I bought mine from Amazon. Some I've bought on DVD and others I've bought on SD card. Maybe one was a download, I can't actually remember.

  • Downloads are tied to a single device, SD card purchases are portable

  • Yeah, DVD are device-locked too. They only give you a 4GB SD card, annoyingly.

  • Thank you chaps, UK & Ire SD card ordered, £24 seems reasonable.

  • Is it best to use GPS and GLONASS? I'm guessing it runs battery down faster, but gives you a more accurate and faster satellite connection.

  • I just use GPS. Battery life is more important than track accuracy for me.

  • I'm impressed with the battery life so far with my forerunner 230.
I'll see how much difference GLONASS makes.

  • Doesn't seem to work for me anymore.

Also anyone experience enabling Bluetooth that the symbol is still not flashing. Does that means the Bluetooth is broken?

  • I had the same issue as above. Had to forget device on iPhone then go through the the connection setup all over again. Start from scratch.

  • I'm trying to make a long (~200km) off-road route across the UK to do this weekend. Towpaths, bridleways, dirt as much as possible. What's the best website/map to plan this?

-Openmtbmap - autoroute isn't working for me at the moment, for some reason
-RidewithGPS - ok, but doesn't take you on bridleways so much, even on "walk" setting
-Bikehike - doesn't do autorouting, bit of a killer

    Anything better?
