  • Is there any consensus

No, but there is frequently a manufacturer's instruction. They don't seem to take account of rider weight or stem length when coming to the conclusion that 50mm is the right number.

  • Cheers tester, unfortunately these are the forks I bought from a forumenger (that won't fit anything bigger than a 20c), so no idea who the manufacturer is or what they recommend. I've got 40mm of spacers at the mo, with another 10mm above the stem (as is apparently a good idea to make sure I don't squish the carbon with my stem).

For reference I'm about 90kg and I've got a 130mm stem on there at the mo'.

What are my chances of imminent death/expensive dental work?

The probability is driven more by the quality of manufacture than the height of your scoblestack :-)
