What a brilliantly elegant solution! By attaching them to the wooden panel as you have, this also compensates for the back not being flush. I salute you.
Have you just screwed the hooks into some (MDF?) with wood screws, then? If so, how thick is the panel, and do the screws protrude through the other side?
I had intended to attach the hooks directly to a wall, but now I think I will get a wooden panel and attach that to the wall first. If I get a thick enough panel and small enough screws, that should be fine, but don't want to risk the hook getting torn off eventually.
I use 2 of these.
Don't bin them, I placed a large woodscrew under the arm to lift it up so you can hook the wheel under easily. Like this...
